Just started watching it today, about 5 episodes in but it's pretty good.

bit rude to only mark this thread for white people.

What's the programme called? What's it about?

Thought you knew better, Danny.
hehehe

The Engl in English and England is reference to the Angle people who first settled in Northumberland. Making Geordie the closest to real English. What everyone else speaks is a hybrid type French bastardisation, descending from mass genocide and cultural appropriation.

Speaking anything other than Geordie is therefore the equivalent of being a Nazi or a white girl in Ibiza with braids in her hair

Geordie English is the real english, Spain Spanish is the real Spanish. That doesn't make it any easier to understand.

Oh well, not as bad as Scottish or Chilean accents.

You lot are quite sensitive over a bit of satire. Are we sure the writer is the one who is the snowflake because some of you were triggered by the name of the show alone...

This would have been a 10/10 WUM post if not for the emoji!

I think if anyone were to feel guilty watching this, or feel that this is aimed at them then they probably shouldn't look to blame the show. The people who will complain "what if they made a show called dear black people" are probably the same people that would complain "well they don't let us have white people groups at Uni".

That preview @Spike posted has also unsurprisingly missed the point, the term "Dear White People" isn't used because they believe every white person goes out and black faces at Halloween, it's used to make a point about the privilege we have in rarely, if ever, having stereotypes or generalisations based on our skin colour being made about us and them actually effecting our day to day lives. If you take offence from that then it's ironic because I imagine you'd also be the person to label someone as being part of "generation snowflake".

I think this whenever I hear an Irish or South African person speak, to be honest. Their accents clearly don't fit the English language and it makes their speech completely unintelligible. Try something else.

You might want to take a moment to google why the Irish speak English and not their own language...

Yeah, the South Africans are awful, but I think Zulu and other languages are beginning to take over.

I watched a preview of it a few months back. It is pretty fucking patronising. No thanks.

Maybe you're better off watching this then...

Not all white people have the same priveledges and it is just childish reductionsim. Whatever priveledges do exist it'd be largely insular; I sincerely doubt the face value of 'white priveledge' would matter in scenarios concerning multiple races. For instance a poor multiethnic neighbourhood would have examples of all different sort of 'priveledge'. A few examples I can think of are; a SE Asian store clerk would be show distrust to both outwardly poor whites and blacks while favouring people of the same ethnicity. A white person walking into a black barbershop would be met with stares. The moment someone becomes 'the odd one out' all priveledges disappear. The exceptions are when people are outwardly wel-off and speak without shibboleths. Race is a single aspect of how a person is presented; it's influence may be felt in the manner many act, speak, and dress; but it is rarely the single defining characterstic of 'first impressions'. There are many influences that people don't realise that change perception. Where dod you meet this person? You are far more likely to have pre-conceived notions concerning a person based on the geographical stereotypes. One is far more likely to assume a white male is a redneck when in the South of USA. One is more likely to expect a gang banger in Chicago's south side. One is more likely to expect  a FOB in Chinatown.

No thank you, as a white foreigner with a thick accent all my 'white privilege' disappears the moment I open my mouth because people instantly treat me differently; I know this because I work in customer service I've seen people attitudes change instantly. It is such a simple and reduced view that it delegitimises it's own point. Afterwards a new set of assumptions, stereotypes, and generalisations is made from my accent and nationality, not my race.

In fact that preview I posted gets it 100% right because it deconstructs your point of: ''make a point about the privilege we have in rarely, if ever, having stereotypes or generalisations based on our skin colour being made about us and them actually effecting our day to day lives' by portraying white people as a shallow stereotype of north-eastern USA preppies. The show reinforces negative stereotypes of those people, now there are uninformed people that believe all of those NE preppies live in a bubble and wear blackface. It is as subtle as a porno.

What I find ironic is you're (Cark) talking about generalisations and assumptions and end it with an assumption about me;)

I saw a bit of that. Pretty funny, if I recall correctly.

I found it funny too but I stopped following after season 2. Really not much of a TV series guy anyhow.
