A Spanish second division match was abandoned at half-time as Rayo Vallecano fans chanted that Albacete forward Roman Zozulya was a Nazi.

The Ukraine international joined Rayo on loan in 2017 but the deal was cancelled hours later after fans turned up to training with a banner saying the town was "not a place for Nazis".

Zozulya has always denied links with far-right groups.

A league statement backed the referee's decision to call off the game.

It said "grave insults and threats" were made towards Zozulya, and added both teams asked referee Jose Antonio Lopez Toca to abandon the match.

"With the support of Rayo Vallecano, Albacete and La Liga, the referee has suspended the game in Vallecas," Albacete said in a short statement.

"This decision was taken with one objective, which is to safeguard the values of our competition and the sport which we all love."

In an open letter to Rayo fans in 2017, Zozulya claimed "a misunderstanding by a journalist who knows very little about the reality of my country and my own career" led to the belief he was involved in the far-right movement in Ukraine.

2019 and this shit still happens.

Nice goal.

Be good to see the top flight back as well on Friday.

I still find it baffling that Advincula is in the second division.

He's far from a top player as sometimes his mentality to track back can be downright laughable, but he's way better than the Liga 123. I think he belongs at a mid table club in Spain. Maybe at a stretch Sevilla.

It's a shame the Peruvian agents do a shocking job at promoting their players unless it has to do with money.

There were some great games in the final weekend of La Liga 2.  Eibar went in to the final matchday at the top of the table and ending up finishing 3rd thanks to a 90+ minute winner from already relegated Alcorcon.  Valladolid won comfortably and jumped up to 2nd.  Almeria were 2nd at the beginning of the matchday but had dropped to 3rd as they were being man-handled by Leganes.  They pulled out a draw in the end, which coupled with Eibar's loss meant they went top of the table.  Crazy scenes at Leganes with the Almeria fans shitting it only to find out that Alcorcon scored in the dying moments.

So Almeria return to La Liga after 7 years away and Valladolid bounce right back up.  Eibar, Tenerife, Las Palmas, and Girona will battle it out in the playoffs for the third promotion spot.

Tenerife take the first leg of the their playoff Canarias Derby semi-final against Las Palmas 1-0.  First half was an exciting match with Tenerife wasting several chances (looking at you Enric Gallego) to put the game out of reach.  Tenerife goal was a deflected effort by the defender Leon, at which point they set up shop to defend their lead and hit on the break.  Las Palmas owned the second half possession-wise but failed to really trouble Soriano in goal.

Second leg will be at Las Palmas on Saturday.

Eibar win first leg of their playoff matchup against Girona 0-1.  Ager Aketxe with a golazo from about 40 yards.  Eibar had Tejero sent off just before halftime for two yellows within 45 seconds.  Total bonehead stuff.  They parked the bus and defended for the final 45 minutes to hold on for the win.

I only had time to watch the 2nd leg of Las Palmas and Tenerife.  Tenerife win away from home 1-2 after two goals in the first half.  Las Palmas had no creative spark and looked largely flat in front of their 30,000+ home support.  Tenerife advance to the playoff final 3-1 on aggregate.  I'll be watching Eibar and Girona tonight (delay).

Girona beat Eibar on aggregate 2-1.  Just as in the first leg, a golazo opens the scoring as Borja Garcia thumps in a volley from outside the box into the top corner in the first minute of the match.  Eibar were unable to generate any credible threat on goal and the tie went to extra time at 1-1 on aggregate.  In the first minute of extra time Christian Stuani heads in a corner and just like that Girona are 2-1 up.  Eibar huffed and puffed for the remainder of extra time but ultimately lose.

The playoff final begins this weekend with 2 legs.  Girona at Tenerife up first.
