Are International Friendlies During The Season Useful?

To an extent, yes. For the purposes of finding out if players are any good before a tournament. 

They're also useful for host countries of tournaments seeing as they don't have to qualify and therefore players would miss out there were no friendlies.

The international calendar needs a complete overhaul and then you would get more benefit from international friendlies.

Longer but fewer 'international breaks' would benefit everyone involved massively. Ideally given a chance to play 3 or 4 games in a row, with a friendly at the beginning, would improve the quality of a lot of international matches.

Realistically, how much work can a manager have when they only have the squad (which will naturally change from time to time) for a week at a time and try and mould together a team in such a small time.
