Sao Paulo plunged into darkness as a result of the wildfires and cold weather fronts. Not sure if this is a completely unedited photo but it scares the f out of me. That's how apocalypse looks like. It's ridiculous how an entire ecosystem is being destroyed - not to mention that it's one of the most important ecosystem that affects the entire world - yet there's almost no coverage in the press. So much for caring about climate eh?

I didn't notice @Dr. Gonzo's post until now. Sorry to hear that mate and I know what you're going through(other than the not being able to get back over here, which must make it a lot worse) and it's one of the horrible parts of life. You will always remember the great times though mate when looking back in future years and his memory will live on for you.

I'm very sorry to hear this news mate. May he rest in peace and may his memory be forever lasting in the family, especially for you.

I have seen a lot of that in Australia many moons ago but not so drastic as that photo plus it was summertime, I was sitting at a train station and looking towards the Dandenong Ranges and Upper Ferntree Gully area in the distance, smoke and red glows lighting up the sky from bush fires, I shuddered a bit then as when we emigrated to Australia in the early 60s we had a house in Upper Ferntree Gully (a lot of bush in them days) before we moved to Port Melbourne.

Got back from Amsterdam yesterday afternoon, 4th visit there and the 2nd time this year. Stag do on this occasion so zero culture but still a decent trip. Tried plenty of different bars this time, the highlight being The Supper Club on Saturday night. You all lay on beds, eat a 4 course meal (dishes are small) with entertainment in between, and then it turns into a club. Absolutely rammed in there. Was very good. 8/10's all over the shop. Beer bike was excellent too, mainly because of where we went and the bloke leading it. Lowlight was paying extortionate money to go in the overrated Banana Bar on the last night. Outnumbered and not wanting to be that one person who says no, I went along with it. Pretty poor if I'm honest. Coincidentally, I heard some big black woman called Rhonda from one of the red light windows asking if I'd seen a nice looking Asian lad by the name of Sunil. Something about "...if you see him, tell him not to worry about running out in tears, it happens to a lot of guys the first time they try it, apparently". Don't know what she meant?

Couldn't agree more. I've always held Lampard in high regard really - seems genuinely likeable and while he won't be brash or aggressive, he'll still say what needs to be said and not really beat around the bush about anything so far. Can't ever knock trying to develop youth as well.

I've just thought now. If it was 500 meters at 0.30mm and 350 meters at 0.35mm then I'd have simply just needed to divide 150 between 5, which is 30 and then take away 30 as I went up a 0.1mm, which would pretty much leave me with this:- 0.31 - 470 0.32 - 440 0.33 - 410 0.34 - 380 Quite basic mathematics really(even if it's only an approximation) and I don't know why I even needed to ask @RandoEFC or yourself as I should really have worked that out myself. She just text me and said she had to use her magnifying glass for the first ever on a guy called Lee? Have no idea who she's on about but poor guy. Must have been embarrassing. She said she rinsed him and charged extra cos he looked like a right mug too. Did you have a good time there mate? We ended up going to Prime and then Club John Doe on our last night then. Was hanging out my arse the following morning. Amsterdam is great for the birds - straight 10s in all directions.

Nasa confirms ocean moon mission Scientists working on an audacious mission to the ocean world of Europa can proceed with the final design and construction of the spacecraft, Nasa says. The Europa Clipper mission will target the ice-encrusted moon of Jupiter, which is considered a prime target in the search for life beyond Earth. Below its icy shell, Europa is thought to hold a 170km-deep body of water. This could have the right conditions for biology. Due to launch in 2025, the Europa Clipper mission has now passed a stage called Key Decision Point C, a crucial marker on the road to the launch pad. "We are all excited about the decision that moves the Europa Clipper mission one key step closer to unlocking the mysteries of this ocean world," said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for Nasa's science mission directorate. Europa Clipper will carry out an in-depth investigation of the watery world, including whether it can support life in its subsurface ocean. Gravitational interactions with Jupiter generate tidal forces and heat, which keeps Europa's ocean liquid. The heating may even drive volcanic vents on the seafloor; on Earth, such vent systems support a wide array of life forms. But it has taken decades to bring a dedicated mission this far, in part because of cost considerations and the challenges posed by the space environment around Jupiter. Europa's orbital path takes it deep into belts of intense radiation that surround the giant planet. This radiation fries spacecraft electronics, which limits the durations of prospective missions to months or even weeks. So rather than orbiting Europa, Clipper will make repeated close flybys of the moon, to reduce its exposure to the energetic particles trapped by Jupiter's magnetic field. Europa: Our best shot at finding alien life? The spacecraft will carry nine science instruments, including cameras and spectrometers to produce high-resolution images of the moon's surface. a magnetometer to measure the strength and direction of its magnetic field (providing clues to the ocean's depth and salinity) and an ice-penetrating radar to determine the thickness of the icy crust above the ocean. The icy shell could be tens of kilometres thick. Luckily, scientists think there are several ways for ocean water to get up to Europa's surface. In recent years, the Hubble Space Telescope has made tentative observations of plumes of water-ice erupting from beneath Europa, much as they do on Saturn's ice moon Enceladus, which also has a subsurface ocean. The first concepts for missions to explore Europa were drawn up in the 1990s, around the time that data from the Galileo spacecraft helped build evidence for a subsurface ocean. Since then, however, one proposal after another has been thwarted, including an ambitious US-European mission along the lines of the Cassini-Huygens mission. But Clipper has had a key champion on Capitol Hill, in the form of Republican congressman John Culberson who, as chairman of the US House of Representatives appropriations committee that funds Nasa, channelled money to the mission. But last year, Culberson, who had become known for his advocacy for Europa exploration, was unseated in Texas' 7th congressional district by Democrat Lizzie Pannill Fletcher. During the campaign, a pro-Democrat political action committee ran an ad saying: "For Houston, Lizzie Fletcher will invest in humans, not aliens." A follow-up mission to go and land on Europa has also been proposed. Just finished season 3. Final episode was great. They obviously have season 4 already under their belt. Hopefully the wait isn't too long.
