  2. Yes to an extreme, and yes. If you are starting out, there are some basics to learn. but really you just need to focus on tactics and the endgame. SOOO many people focus on the openings but truth is you can't win in the opening, and strong tactics wallup any opening.

  3. Nintendo coming up with the most unexpected announcement (for me at least) for E3. A remake of Advance Wars and Advance Wars: Black Hole Rising on Switch. I was not expecting that in the slightest. Would have been nice to see a new game, but I'll happily play these. I think I recommended the first one at least to @Dr. Gonzo a little while ago.

  5. @Tommy If you want my study guide for getting better at chess, this is what I'd do Opening (Learn to 4 moves in, and just watch a couple of beginner Youtube Videos on each as they are the most common) Ruy Lopez Italian Four Knights and then I'd learn Queen's Gambit both accepted and declined that it's more popular now with the Netflix series. Tactics Chess.com has a tactics trainer, that I would study like my life depended on it. Don't rush your answer, and if you get it wrong, FIND OUT WHY. So many people just continue to play play play instead of reviewing their mistakes. Chess.com has also lessons that I'd work through as they can very valuable. Lichess has a similar program, although I don't get on there all that often. Endings Chess.com has great drills for the endgame. Even though you might not ever get the chance to mate with two bishops, or bishop and knight, the point is that my memorizing the 'goal' for each checkmate, you will slowly begin to see uses for these within your own game, plus if you ARE even in this position, you will be fully prepared. Other One of the BIGGEST mistakes I see people making, is just playing 1|0 games one after another, for hours and hours. These teach AWFUL habits and while you get the 'quick fix' of playing a chess game, I'd avoid these for as long as you can hold out. If you play live chess, I'd go with the 5|0 or 3|2 time if you want to play but not take too long. Remember, if you lose, learn why. If you win, figure out how you could have won faster OR how you could have beaten yourself. Reviewing your games will show the greatest and quickest path to world domination. When I need chess inspiration, I also watch ChessBrah, Botez, or someone similar on Twitch. I'd check it out. If you have any questions or want another set of eyes, just download the FEN or PGN, and send it to me (you can text me), and I'll send it back with notes and my thoughts. I have a few people who do this for me and it's so helpful to get another point of view. Lastly, HAVE FUN. If it ever gets too much, then it's not worth it. Just enjoy it and have a blast learning about a game that's been around for centuries and yet no one can play the 'perfect' game. Amazon comes in handy, still stocking up and the majority of this lot will go in the wine chiller and shelf in the backroom for special occasions like Xmas and the daughters birthday coming up as we are thinking of having a Birthday bash and Barbi in the back green, erm...a couple of the VR Chardonnay bottles are getting chilled atm for my consumption tonight.
