  3. I fear that the globalization led to a universal approach of how developing players. So, we're all more similar than we used to be and that shock of culture and different styles that made international football so interesting has simply disappeared. Kids are being taught positional play all over the world. In that sense, France and the street football played in the parisian outskirts is the last beacon of resistance against this sanitized, universal way of football.

  4. Married to my wife for 17 years. Met online on an old app called ICQ and I went to visit her at her dad's house blind. Been in love ever since. I follow Roma in Italy as Totti is/was my favorite player of all time, Dortmund in Germany (although I'm obsessed with German football culture and have a soft spot for several other teams), and FC Cincinnati because they're my hometown team. Really enjoying my time on here. I've been a member on the famed WACCOE board for years and the bile that comes from that site is unreal. It's nice to be able to chat football sensibly without abuse.

  5. Neville is such a clown these day, fans have been saying this since VAR was introduced to the Premier League...

  7. Results - Matchday 1 (Complete) Casualties (0) With Portugal the only side receiving any backing in the opening pair of fixtures in Group F ahead of their victory over Hungary, there are no further casualties today. A total of 6 players from a pool of 32 entrants have been eliminated in the first round. Survivors (7) It wasn't straightforward for those who backed apparent bankers Portugal, but a flurry of late goals, including a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo, sees @LFCMike, @Viva la FCB, @Mel81x, @DeadLinesman, @6666, @Panna King and @Coma safely into Matchday Two. Thanks to those who have already made their next picks, the rest of you can look ahead at the fixtures below as Matchday Two is underway from tomorrow! Not in play today (19) Today's seven survivors join the nineteen players that had already progressed to bring the total number of players remaining ahead of Matchday Two to 26. Below are the full results from Gameweek One and the picks I have to date for Matchday Two. Please let me know in a new post whether I've got the wrong team for you or you want to change your pick! @Mel81x, @Panna King, @Asura and @...Dan are yet to make their next picks. Don't miss out as this set of fixtures will be over before you know it! Matchday Two fixtures These can be found below for the final time. Starting with tomorrow's update, I'll be posting the third and final set of group matches for the benefit of those who successfully make the next step into Matchday Three. Barring any changes people decide to make beforehand, tomorrow is currently set to only see a smattering of action, with Dr. Gonzo and Pyfish backing Russia in the early kickoff and CaaC (John) ploughing a lonely furrow, alone so far in putting his faith in Italy next.

  8. Guess that's what happens if all of us always bid for the same players.

  9. Cristiano Ronaldo is everything that Marko Arnautovic thinks he is.

  10. That was a brilliant set up. Hungary's defense less focused there.

  11. Two shit goals but I'll have it. Deserved despite the weaker 2nd half. France and Germany will have it difficult against Hungary if they're also to play to 60k fans.

  13. Exactly my thoughts. Jota was selfish there and I'm sure he will hear it from Ronaldo at half-time.

  16. Shinji Doherty Introduction Thread "Alright folks, ich bin Shinji. Irish fella (from Derry in the north), Manchester United and Derry City fan, long time forum user (mainly F365), new to this place, will give it a shot and see if it's any craic. So, yeah, hello." SirBalon went ballistic with me because he hated spiders and mentioned it in his Recent Status Updates and I replied with a spider gf, I had to remove it as I was new to the forums and I did not want to upset him because I think he was a Mod at the time.

  17. Results - Matchday 1D Casualties (2) It's an early exit for @Toinho and @Chaaay AFC, the only two entrants to back Poland against unfancied Slovakia in the first set of fixtures. The Poles looked on track to overturn their first-half deficit until Grzegorz Krychowiak received a second yellow card just after the hour mark, before Milan Skriniar's thumping effort put the final nail in their coffin. Unlucky chaps, thanks for playing! Survivors (0) Nobody else was involved today so the total number of confirmed survivors through to Matchday Two still stands at 19. Not in play today (26) Aside from the nineteen confirmed survivors, just 7 people are still waiting to learn their fate and will hope that Portugal can deliver on their favourites tag when they face Hungary tomorrow night. Those seven players - @LFCMike, @Viva la FCB, @DeadLinesman, @Mel81x, @6666, @Panna King and @Coma - are welcome to make a Matchday Two pick before tomorrow's game, especially if you have your eyes on one of the earlier fixtures. I don't want anyone left at a disadvantage by having less than 24 hours to pick! Obviously, if Portugal don't get the win, I'll just disregard your pick for the next Matchday. See the fixtures below! Matchday Two fixtures The start of the second round of fixtures is fast approaching. I'm awaiting picks from the following players who have made it to this stage: @Dr. Gonzo @Redcanuck @Michael @Machado @Asura @...Dan. Don't forget to get your picks in!

  18. Yes to an extreme, and yes. If you are starting out, there are some basics to learn. but really you just need to focus on tactics and the endgame. SOOO many people focus on the openings but truth is you can't win in the opening, and strong tactics wallup any opening.

  22. I remember watching the TF1 documentary on France's World Cup title and having the impression that Deschamps is a very good influence to Pogba. He demands a lot from Pogba, on and off the pitch, and extracts the best from him. Deschamps is by no means a good tactician, but he comes across as a very honest, hard-working and inspiring leader, his players like him and play for him

  25. Rafa Silva and Renato Sanches made an impression. Gonna be interesting to see if that's enough to convince Fernando Santos they deserve to start next match.

  26. Been outbid on J.Horn, Joveljic, Prömel, Wolf, Knoche, Amiri, Pedersen, Heintz, Cordova, Didavi, Klement, Zuber, Hector, Bülter, Hahn, Khedira, Hartel, Kaderabek, Casteels, Kobel, and Petersen. My sympathy with you all is limited.

  27. Cesc Fabregas touched on this the other day when doing punditry for BBC, only he referred to it as being 'robotic'. I would tend to agree but the problem is not enough people are brave enough to go against the template. It's very rare you see anyone play a 4-4-2 with two proper strikers now, quite sad to see really. It's all about inverted wingers and full backs. Maybe if we clone Marcelo Bielsa, things would be different.

  28. Bruno really reminds me of Coutinho. Am I the only one who thinks that? He's the kind of attacking midfielder who tends to create chances for himself, not for his teammates. They both thrive when they're in teams where they're the main focus of the attack and struggle when they have better teammates around them.

  29. 1) As much as I hate to admit this my favorite non-Dortmund player has to be Thomas Müller. The dude is freaking amazing. 2) Dortmund player has to be Piszczek, although I really like Hummels as well. 3) I try to stay away from politics threads. I tend to vote Democrat if only because I believe in gun control and universal healthcare, but I've not been happy with any party over the past several years. 4) I was close to visiting Canada once, but the trip fell through at the last minute. I'm a huge Rush fan and would like to visit Toronto before I die. A friend of mine says Vancouver is very cool as well.

  30. To be honest, I think the transfer market has been very competitive so far, as quite a few of us have been involved in signing numerous players every day, so there's healthy competition... Even if I also missed out on quite a few players already, and, of course, it also drives the prices up, so now I have to bid significantly more if I want someone badly Let's see how it goes in later stages

  31. Honestly? I even thought about a thread on this topic, but my excitement regarding football has considerably diminished in the last few years. It feels like every team plays on a 4-3-3 variation and use the same kind of tactics to create chances, moving the ball around and being very conservative not to lose ball possession. Football is becoming a bit like handball in a way, with creativity and improvisation being progressively stamped out.

  35. With partners when horny you can lose your senses. What have you done during this period? Once just before the squirt I started straining so much that when I started firing I was flexing like a bodybuilder would on stage, during his poses in competitions. Not sure why but it was just a 1 off.

  36. Amazon comes in handy, still stocking up and the majority of this lot will go in the wine chiller and shelf in the backroom for special occasions like Xmas and the daughters birthday coming up as we are thinking of having a Birthday bash and Barbi in the back green, erm...a couple of the VR Chardonnay bottles are getting chilled atm for my consumption tonight.

  43. Indeed! I can safely say we've all been that guy in the background of the first picture

  44. Surely not. He's been accused of making "racist" remarks by some media, so he made a public statement to clear it up. There was plenty of trash talk between him and some North Macedonian players (Alioski, reportedly) during the match (which is frankly not surprising, given their backgrounds), hence Arnautovic's outburst after he scored. Nobody had any complaints after the match though, the players involved talked it over, and it had all been blown out of proportion by the holier-than-thou keyboard warriors on social media, as usual... Some dickheads even claimed he was showing a "white power" gesture
