  1. Perpetual war economy. That is probably how the intervening countries see it.I sincerely doubt they want an end to conflict, when they can milk war profits.

  3. Saw the story of a German-Afghan trying to get out of Kabul. He knew that most Taliban are illiterate, so when they stopped and questioned him, he just held up a red book and said that he's a German diplomat and has to return to Germany. They actually believed him and waved him through. What a man.

  12. Nah, don't care about them at all. Could be better once other manufacturers join next season, but I didn't like LMP1 and I expected better design for the hypercars... Disappointing so far. It's all about LMP2 and GTE for me.

  20. The Northern Alliance are going to need support airdropped into the Panjshir Valley (which, I dunno if any of you have seen pictures of... and I literally know fuck all about warfare so maybe I'm wrong... but it looks like an incredibly good "defensive position" for anyone to take in any war) - but they're basically surrounded as they were before. I'm sure the US will find some way to support the Northern Alliance - either directly through the CIA, or by increasing aid to India - who'll then be providing that aid to the Northern Alliance (if the US has any need for "discretion" in their support for the Northern Alliance). As long as they have food, ammunition, and explosives - I think the Northern Alliance will be able to defend the Panjshir valley... I don't believe the Taliban has ever had an air force and while they now have shitloads of US blackhawk helicopters (and probably other US military aircraft now) as well as drones they captured in their recent offensive - I'm not sure they'll be able to use them effectively against the Northern Alliance. I agree with you though, I think it'll be a civil war that results in a similar stalemate to pre-2001 - the Northern Alliance will probably have de facto control of the north of the country, the Taliban will likely control the south. You're absolutely right about the opium production in Afghanistan - it's their cash crop and their largest export by far. If the Taliban go ahead with stopping opium production, they'll definitely feel the financial impact. Regardless of whatever happens to the poppy fields though, I suspect Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will continue their support. I'm certain Pakistan will, tbh - they're a big part of the reason the Taliban is still around. If I'm Xi Jinping and I want to get lithium from Afghanistan... I think the last thing I'd want to do is make an enemy of either the Taliban or the Northern Alliance. So my plan for navigating the situation would be "can I throw money at these people to make them alright with me developing infrastructure, mining the hell out of the country, and exporting everything back to China as cheaply as possible?" And then I guess it becomes a question of speaking with both sides of the conflict and seeing how much it would take to get those assurances. And then even after those assurances, I think the biggest question on China's mind would be "can I trust the Taliban after throwing all of that money at them." And I'm pretty certain the answer is "No, you shouldn't ever trust the Taliban." So you're right, it'll be interesting to see what happens... but my guess is... it's not going to go that great for China unless they can get the Taliban to keep to their word. And even then, throwing cash at both sides doesn't guarantee that either side will be happy about their enemy having newfound riches from the same people that pay you. But if China's ultimately got to roll their military in... I think they're for an unpleasant surprise - nobody enjoys wars in Afghanistan.

  21. In all honesty, as much as I'd love to see Activision getting an absolute hiding, I think it'll just go the way of Ubisoft. 'Sack' (and I use that loosely) a few of the senior managers and directors, make out that you're a wonderful company but the shitshow still continues.

  25. Wonderful to get back inside Stamford Bridge after far too long away. I imagine the players found the atmosphere far better judging by the tempo compared to most of the behind closed doors fixtures of last season. There was more of an urgency for longer periods of the game that made it feel like we were far better than we actually were. Baring in mind how poor Palace were, it didn't take much to score 3. The truth of the matter is a team far more well oiled would have found the net more often than we did. As ever, a win is a win, best to accept the points and hope for better. Better should come with the introduction of Lukaku. As I have said, I like the signing as I feel he will benefit all around him as well as get his fair share of goals. We continue to handicap ourselves by starting with the passenger and I hope the medical department find the answer to keeping Kante available far more often than the last two seasons appearances. Werner and Pulicic could well be battling out for just the one position from now on and while Werner does not score anywhere enough I believe there is far more to his game which should give him the nod. In saying that I have a sneaky suspicion Havertz will play much closer to Lukaku than most would expect. Whatever Thomas chooses, there are enough bodies to make competition tough for all. Where the fuck has young Trevoh come from. The problem when young players are sent out on loan soon after turning 18 is I don't get to see there development on ChelseaTV. Known pretty much as Nathaniel's (Top player in academy at his age group) brother he was shipped off to Ipswich who tried to sign him full time (bit like Forest with John) Loan stints at Huddersfield n Orient followed. Now inserted into the starting 11 maybe he will save us a small fortune. Good luck to the feller. I think it should be pointed out that With Tammy leaving for 34 million some are now claiming we will have raised the Lukaku fee from sales in this current window. If true our Marina has again proved herself as the first lady of Football.

  26. @Mel81x... after fucking around on Amplitube (their JCM800 model, if that helps - but I think any gainy Marshall sound should get close tbh) last night trying to recreate it - I sort of found myself having the same problem. I'm either giving it too much gain and/or treble... or I've not got enough gain and/or treble. So I dialed in a tone that sounded close-ish and rolled off a bit of gain and presence & put an overdrive sim with the gain almost all the way down (let's say at like .1 gain), the level I had about 3/4ths of the way to fully turned up, and the tone I had at about 1 or 2 oclock... that was much closer than trying to get the sound from just the amp... ...but it still wasn't quite right

  27. Was a great watch that game. Been finding myself tuning into more and more NRL games. Used to be few and far between but I’ve seen quite a bit in the last fortnight and I’ve enjoyed it. The levels here vs Super League is incomparable, makes our lads look like a load of old sloggers.
