Appreciation thread for everything nautical, regardless if it's old vessels, modern container and cargo ships, massive cruise liners, tiny boats or just the peculiarities of sea travel in general. I'm fascinated by ships; they are marvels of engineering for me. Amerigo Vespucci, also known as the most beautiful ship in the world. Still part of the Italian navy as a training ship.

I find their earlier stuff (EP and Undertow) to be a bit boring. My favorite albums were Lateralus and 10,000 Days. Fear Innoculum is good but a tad repetitive.

Even when I decided to leave Australia I went by ship/jet which was a cheap form of travel, spent a few days at sea travelling from Fremantle on a ship but it was in hammocks as it sailed along when you were asleep the ship if it hit some rough water the hammock would swing and it was soothing as hell, I snored my head off, we landed in Singapore and stayed in the hotel Singapore for 2 days and the flew onto the UK, Heathrow I think it was, my mind kept flashing back to the sea trips emigrating years before and just then. I have been on a few ferries in my time, travelling back to Germany with the wife from Hull to Zeebrugge and then a train all the way to Dortmund, then in NI when we were returning from a tour of duty, also when we went on an exercise in my army days on a ship from Germany to Aberporth in Wales and years later went on holiday with the wife and kids on a ferry from Glasgow to the Isle of Bute.

I think a lot of people forget that a lot of the positions he takes up sees him in midfield when Liverpool have possession anyway.

I've always thought the idea was weird. He broke through into the team as a right back that looked very good for his age. Then he became a world class right back. Why mold him into something else if he's world class as a right back? I honestly think a lot of people just want to see him "be the next Stevie" - since they both came through into the team as right backs... but Gerrard was a midfielder that just made his first few appearances as a right back - and I also think he was one of the most well rounded players of his generation, playing in teams that were good - but often times not great, so his well-roundedness was used by managers to paper over cracks. Trent's came through as a right back when he is a right back, not a midfielder, and he's playing in a Liverpool team that is probably one of the strongest in the last few decades where there's quality all over the pitch and he's a world class fullback that performs really really well at fullback for us. But also I do think Klopp's more of a tactician and Southgate's more of a "no tactics, vibes only" kind of manager.

I would love it, and tried looking for opportunities to go to Europe from Asia and return by sea instead of flying, but there were unfortunately way too few options available; not very affordable either. The best bet is finding a cargo ship that accepts limited number of passengers, but even that's quite challenging, and covid obviously made it even more complicated- Most people don't want slow travel anymore, sadly.

Sea travel like air travel should be more common around the world. Some places are cheaper and more easily accessible by sea.

Was on a engineering call today with some directors about some new updates and solutions, and I was asking some questions to fully grasp what was coming, and after asking more and more questions, I guess I found 'maybe' a bit of a gap in the solution, and got a couple of the guys laughing. One guy spoke up and asked me if I spoke Dutch or French fluently because he needed a security engineer in the Amsterdam office. My reply? Nope, but I'll learn if you give me 6 months. We laughed, continued the call, and then afterwards he pinged me to ask me about my response and if I was really interested, and now we have a call next week to see how the logistics would work. So yeah....Amsterdam.

Nah, just a normal flat for four days. Apparently it has a nice terrace too. And it was not all expensive.

I have always had a love for the old galleys of Greece and Rome back in the day.. We should bring them back and we can put all the criminals in them doing continuous round the UK cruises as a form of hard labour.. You keep going round until either you pass away or complete how ever many years it is you get...
