  1. 12 weeks today. Been sleeping between 8-10 hours a night for the previous 8 weeks. I've got no idea what you've all been complaining about.

  2. It's one thing a minority of the public getting 2-3 households of their nearest and dearest together on the sly on Christmas day and most of them probably having the grace to feel bad about it. I'm not sure a "large chunk" of the population had sizeable secret parties with Secret Santa, cheese and wine. And that's before you factor in the rank hypocrisy of being the ones who actually made the rules themselves. Besides, even if you put all of that aside, it's the Prime Minister and the government. They've been elected to look after the country, they should be held to the highest standard of all. I get the temptation to try not to get angry. If you do it every time with this lot, it's not great for your mental health. You've got to try and find that balance. But you can't just turn a blind eye to everything because eventually nothing will matter and stuff like this will be perceived as okay. I really don't think it's unreasonable to say that there should be protests outside Downing Street until heads roll for this (and everything else).

  3. I saw the description but didn't watch the video. Can't even fathom such indescribable acts of cruelty. It's absolutely heart-breaking and infuriating.

  4. Boris Johnson should never have been Prime Minister of this country. He's a bad and incompetent man on every level that I can think of. This story hasn't really riled me until tonight. It isn't even the hypocrisy, lies or sense that the rules don't apply to them that angers me, I've come to expect that. What angers me is the fact that Britain has become a country where you aren't even seeing people call for his resignation when that should be the minimum expectation. A Labour leader or even a Theresa May type gets strung up for this overnight. He should resign before the night is through. If this isn't a resigning matter for a Prime Minister in a pandemic then I literally don't know what is. Yet the Met police won't even investigate it. It's not the Britain I grew up in, or at least the one I believe I grew up in. We've become a country rotten to the core. How people can conceive of voting for this government and this party again is absolutely beyond me. I don't care how average the other parties are.

  5. Evidence seems to be confirming that this becoming a progressively milder disease. If so, by spring we should be able to stop this hyper focus on a disease which is, yes, nasty at times but really not the plague that it's made out to be. Let's try and salvage what we can, the social issues that will come from this will be horrific. We need to start rectifying it now.

  9. Milan is the ugliest city in Italy (imo) - so it's fitting, I suppose.

  10. I always browse Netflix once per month looking for something which is unknown. I found a series based in South Africa. Am 8 episodes into 13. It's called Diamond City. I looked on IMDB for reviews and it only had 1 review, was in 2 minds about watching it. Am glad I did, it's a hidden gem and I'm gripped. Has corruption, covering up and trafficking as the main elements of this series. I highly recommend it.

  11. Russia/Ukraine looking like it could kick off. I think it might just step back this time but Russia's aggression is clear. However, I do think it is irresponsible for the USA to be saying Ukraine could a member of NATO. Imagine a hostile state on the border of the USA...would never happen.

  12. Leaked recording shows Downing Street staff joking about Christmas party in No.10 | The Independent This is pretty damning. Now we all know this is coming from Cummings, and we all know lots of people met up at Christmas. We are human beings but it's the hypocrisy which is killer. I think Johnson may well be ousted in the New Year, which may sound like good news but Gove is hovering in the wings and he is an appalling man.

  15. Pretty optimistic. The best thing is that the CDU is in opposition now, so on paper it's at least not "more of the same". Very happy with the appointment of Karl Lauterbach as minister of health. He has been one of the most promiment figures during the pandemic, because he always warned against Covid and it's effects. He's an extremely hated figure with anti-vaxxers, general Covid deniers/downplayers and right-wingers, so they are furious with this appointment. But we'll see in the next few months and years if they keep their word and make things better.

  17. I'm surprised you're not more concerned about the government's attempts whittling away of our rights outside the realm of public health, considering you've expressed concern about the whittling away of rights done in the name of slowing/stopping the pandemic. Personally, I see the worry in government overreach in curtailing freedoms with regard to covid restrictions... but I find them more palatable when it's temporary measures meant to curtail the spread of a fairly recent disease spreading around the world. But even I can see some worry of a slide to authoritarianism and an erosion of rights/freedoms with these measures. But nonsensical (like this taking away passports for drug use proposal) measures that whittle away our human rights for no good reason are strange and we should be asking if they're willing to whittle away unrelated rights in the name of "stopping drug use" - what other rights are going to be targeted in the name of other issues that are probably going to be unrelated to the rights that are taken away? British rights being subject to sudden changes due to a few penstrokes in parliament should be worrying to everyone, regardless of wherever we may fall on the political spectrum.

  19. The people I saw were definitely in the same family. They screamed and crawled to each other so they could hold each other in their final moments. It was totally fucking hearbreaking.

  20. Fucking hell, I've just seen some really graphic scenes out of Myanmar. People being burnt alive. I need some eyeball bleach to unsee that. Shit like that makes me lose faith in humanity. It really is disgusting cruelty.
