  1. Finally got around to watching it & I think it’s the best Star Wars show so far

  2. RESULTS Group Stage - Matchday 2 The second round of Group Stage fixtures are all done and dusted and here's what it means for all of us. No player has managed 2 wins in a row, but we do have 2 losses in a row (sorry @RandoEFC). As mentioned in the previous post, @Bluewolf and @Toinho drew so can choose to stick with their current teams or move to the opposition. @Beelzebub and @Viva la FCB faced off against each other with France beating Denmark so both are at France for their next game. Rando lost for the second time in a row with Saudi Arabia losing out to his new team, Poland. I'm on the move to Morocco after their win over Belgium, @CaaC (John) and @N U F C have the choice of Spain or Germany, @DeadLinesman stays with Brazil, and @Lucas and @Stan move to Portugal. Just one more round of fixtures and then it's the knockout stages - will we lose anybody before then?! Remember if your team loses to a team that doesn't progress from the group, you're out!

  3. Considering the general wankfest you tend to hear with England, that's debatable.

  4. USA are pretty meek up front. Relying on a bloke that’s relegated two clubs is poor.

  5. I thought it looked like in real time but seeing the replay it definitely wasn’t.

  6. Considering this was our first World Cup for some time and following the impressive second half against the US, I had some cause for optimism. Unfortunately, this has been very disappointing and hoped for more really. Bale and Ramsey, despite their qualities, are done now. Think their injuries and lack of playing time as a whole has caught up with them. Allen and James need to retire as well internationally as well. Allen is getting on and James...............less said about him the better. Page as well needs to go. I can't fault him for getting us to the World Cup, but that's more to do with those quality moments rather than his tactics and gameplan. Can't see me seeing us at another World Cup in my lifetime unfortunately. We have some decent players, but none that really stand out when compared to Bale or Ramsey.

  7. See, that's why I feel that despite Southgate doing well, it's why England will struggle to win a Euro or World Cup under him. Going too defensive when it's not really needed. A bit hypocritical considering we're 2-0 down, but you get what I mean. And once again, as I say that, Rashford makes it 3-0.

  8. Not yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if St. Louis come calling. Lutz Pfannenstiel (sp?) is in charge there and they've already signed Bürki for next season.

  9. That's literally how sportswashing works - for the people in Iran "keeping politics out of sport" has absolutely 0 value to them. Getting people, even "the Great Satan," to make shows of support means everything to them. Right now the only value for Iranians in Iran of being in this world cup right now is it's a platform to get the rest of the world talking about their human rights movement. For people like me who aren't risking their lives battling against thugs with guns who happen to be Iranian, I'm afforded the luxury of getting to care about the actual result - rather than desperately hoping some form of protest leads some people in the west to make a google search that informs them better. The government just wants people to think about the sporting issues and not about anything else. "Keep politics out of sport" ultimately means "don't question what we are doing." These players tried to make a statement and subsequently had their families threatened & two members who didn't make the squad were arrested only to be released if they sang their anthem. That's what "keeping politics out of football with this Iran" team in this moment in Iran's history means standing with, which it's no surprise that's what Qatar is standing with in doing their part to stop their fascist zealot friends getting protested in the stands.

  11. I would normally agree. But in this instance Qatar's security is working with the revolutionary guard to confiscate Iran flags that are either the pre-revolution flag or the green-white-red tricolor that are both used in protest of the government in Iran. To me, I see this as support for the Iranians that are having their political expression suppressed in Iran and Qatar - including the players. Most Iranians I know, in and out of Iran, see it as the same.

  15. And what I did say is, it isn't hipocritical, because times moved on. Or do you think it's hipocritical to condemn the war in Ukraine because the UK fought the Boer wars at the begin of the last century? By the way even if times hadn't changed having commited errors in the past is no excuse to repeat or tolerate them.

  18. A proper colourful update above! Again, apologies for the slack standards compared to the usual write-ups. Like I said, work is mental and I'm also enjoying a new relationship so neither of those are particularly conducive to the one-day midweek turnaround required to run this for a World Cup! Thanks for taking part to those that have been eliminated. I think the new rule has forced a lot of people into taking early risks! And good luck to the final four.

  19. That is the most efficient streaker I've ever seen. Ukraine message on the front, Iranian Women on the back, Rainbow flag in hand AND an Africa Tattoo on his calf.

  20. I think it’s best to just win for momentum as well. It’s a short competition, I think keeping strong momentum for as long as possible is more important than worrying about who you’ll get matched with.

  21. Usually. There's a very high probability Winners of B & Runners Up of A play to meet France in the Q-Final. The other path likely goes to a Q-Final with winners of Argentina group or runners up from France. I imagine the Dutch fans are the only ones studying group winner path & eyeing up a nice as it gets route to a semi final. Iran or USA? Maybe followed by Poland or Denmark? Yet the Dutch group winners path to semi final could conceivably be England & Argentina.

  22. Depends where you are in the country, but being out Saturday night before, during and after the game versus Tunisia, there was a decent amount of excitement, a lot of self-proclaimed non soccer fans were interested. Participation wise Soccer destroys the other major codes, media wise we get very little to no coverage, I've seena bit more now, some hyped up, some not giving justice. I don't think it's expected that we will go through, but tbh I have avoided mainstream commercial media for a long time.

  23. Isn't it beneficial to top your group so you get paired with a potential easier match in the knockout stages? I'd be going for a win nonetheless because it builds momentum and keeps you in form.

  25. Nothing to do with hypocrisy! That were other times, demanding to accept these circumstances today because they were accepted then, is like demanding to agree with slavery, child labour, and burning of heretics in the UK, because they were once accepted in that country.

  28. Excellent finale to sink our teeth into. I think after wrapping all of it up its easily the best Star Wars series and it probably isnt that close. The writing is superb as you guys have mentioned.

  29. Promoted first season as champions. Would've been hard to go up if we hadn't won the league though - would've needed to have beaten 2nd place in the southern league over two legs and then won away at the team who finished 3rd bottom of the 2nd tier. Was largely spearheaded by a striker I had on loan from Finland called Tamminen. We're a bit chaotic but we score loads. I have a very good midfield for my level albeit a very old one too. I'm aiming to buy almost exclusively under 25 players - infact my entire scouting focus has been on 15-25 year olds of which I'll likely just sign ones on frees from the rest of Scandinavia plus maybe Latvia and Lithuania, but I will grow this to worldwide eventually when I have the money. Doesn't help our case that my best two players in my opinion (Tamminen and Trige) are both on loan and both not likely to be back here next season. Been given a healthy wage budget for next season. Treble what it is this season and I've already managed to secure a decent young Latvian midfielder on a free for a similar wage to what I've been paying out to players this season, so I think we'll get a tidy squad together and with that I expect us to survive, but we'll see. I'm not keeping the goals out as well as I was on 22.

  30. Farideh Moradkhani, Khamenei's niece, posted a video a few days ago urging world leaders (mostly EU, UK and India are the ones who can be trusted to cut off these ties) to cut all ties with the IRI. She's been arrested. Got nothing but respect for her tbh, she could have kept quiet about the oppression taken some of the country's wealth and fucked off to Canada or the UK like so many other family members of the leaders. Instead she's stayed in Iran and become an activist. Also I know it is a difficult thing for the EU with Russia being a bunch of cunts, but cutting off the IRI is necessary. It doesn't matter that they have lots of oil and natural gas and Europe needs it right now. Europe can not pretend it stands for human rights while maintaining any sort of relationship with the IRI. The nuclear talks don't matter at the moment either. Maximum pressure on the IRI is the only thing that matters with regard to foreign policy with Iran right now. Sever all ties. Confiscate Iranian assets funneled out of the country by the leadership. Detain, or better yet, deport their families - the way Ukraine deported Iranian students back into harms way... but this time it would be the children of the people who make the rest of the country suffer. People who might actually change Iranian leadership's mind about their oppression. And for those who are curious - here's her video:

  32. Expecting a low block and long balls from Wales, I really hope Mason Mount is dropped now. He offers the team nothing in general, has offered the team less than nothing in the last two games and is definitely a player who benefits from being a starter at a traditional top 4 club. I'd like to see: Kane Grealish - Foden - Sterling Henderson - Bellingham Shaw - Maguire - Stones - Trent Pickford Ultimately we just need a draw to go through and top the group so I'm not too confident we'll see a team that attacking, but I think it's time Foden and Trent both got game time. Less from Rice the better imo.

  33. Germany vs. Spain watched by 17 Mio people in Germany. Best score of the tournament, but still a lot less than in previous tournaments. And the women's Euro final still holds the best score of the year with 17,9 Mio people.

  35. Yes the first would should stop intervening negatively in these countries and playing their part in the systems of corruption that plague parts of the world. But then I think you’d see the price of basically everything go up… and honestly these first world countries often don’t have the answers to tackling poverty themselves. But like @nudge said, looking “big picture” at the causes of the problem itself… it doesn’t really address the issue as it is currently. And that issue is Qatar is a fantastically wealthy country, that literally relies on these migrants to function on a day to day basis (seriously, go look up how much of the population of Qatar is actually Qatari…). Despite this fantastic wealth, they’ve made the choice to be cruelly exploitative to the migrants they depend on. I think it’s made all the more fucked up given that Qatar aren’t exactly short of the resources to make life… not shit…

  37. Its a bag of nails mate. I got it cheap but its a shit car. About 4 and a half hours. I had to ring the police. They said it was not a serious issue because it was visible. Then the battery went because the hazard lights had been on for so long. So I rang them again and they said it was still ok. Even though it was about a metre from the pavement and it was dark. In the end another police car went past and asked what had happened and I explained and they said it was dangerous. But then the rac got there. Also my phone ran out of battery when this happened luckily someone let me borrow theres. Then someone else gave me one of those battery chargers so I was able to charge my phone. He said he had loads and I could keep it which eas nice. Also the other issue was I didn't bring a coat so I was freezing. Absolute nightmare
