  1. Ladies and gents, we have a tie! With 4 votes each, congratulations to @nudge and @Devil-Dick Willie for their November success in being voted Member of the Month! It's only been 2 months since @Devil-Dick Willie's last MOTM accolade and his 3rd in total for the year after winning in January too. July was the last MOTM for @nudge. Nonetheless, worthy winners for November @Spike finished a commendable 2nd with 3 votes, and a worthy 3rd-place for @Lucas with 2 votes. Congratulations to the two winners for this year, and of course to any member who won the award throughout the year. It's award season coming up, so look out for the nominations threads in due course !

  4. All three survivors have successfully negotiated the first knockout round and progress to the Quarter Finals. Fixtures are below: Croatia vs Brazil Argentina vs Netherlands Morocco vs Portugal England vs France @Viva la FCB and @Machado have negotiated the tournament so far in optimal fashion, with three of their four picks to this point eliminated from the tournament. @Viva la FCB can choose any team apart from England this time around, and @Machado can pick anyone but Brazil. @Dan isn't that far worse off, having used 2 of the remaining 8 sides - Netherlands and Argentina. He also knows that one of these two will be eliminated in the quarter finals, meaning that he will still have the choice of 2 of the 4 semi-finalists if he makes it that far. As the Third Place Playoff will be included in the "Final" round, I believe this means that nobody can now be eliminated on account of having used every remaining team in the tournament to survive this far, so well played chaps! There remains a chance that any survivors going into the Final round will only have the choice of one remaining team, but they have to get there first! Please get your Quarter Final picks in ASAP!

  9. QUARTER FINAL TIME! So we've now played all of our Round of 16 games and we know which teams we're going to be with in the Quarter Finals! Argentina beat Australia to secure their place, and a first win for @RandoEFC. Netherlands beat the USA so it's Quarter Finals for @Bluewolf and @Toinho as they are yet to lose. @Lucas and @Stan switch to Brazil after losing with South Korea. Also on the move are @CaaC (John) and @N U F C who move to Croatia. Morocco then beat Spain on penalties so it's Morocco for me.

  10. Ironically they moan about living in an imagined dictatorship, whilst simultanously idealizing times of real dictatorship, in their case the Kaiserreich. AS for the part fuelled by AFD, although I agree in generally with this statement, I impugn it in this special case, since so many BW soldiers are involved. Did my obligatory military service 91-92 and can tell even then, long before AFD was even founded, I became a friend of conscription because of seeing and hearing the opinions of career soldiers and comparing them to those of my comrades. Honestly conscription is, in my opinion, the best way to prevent Bundeswehr from becoming a bunch of reactionaries that are dangerous because armed.

  21. Such a sad individual, won it all has it all but can't be a team player. Needs to be in the focus always and everything has to be done his way as he is Ronaldo. Portugal looked so much better without him probably hard to swallow that he isn't needed anymore. I always hated Messi but i can see they are both very much alike.

  23. Forgot to post the table! So as it stands, Toinho and Bluewolf would take the joint title of Gloryhunter World Cup Champions but there's still 3 games to play for (including the third place play off match for the semi final losers)

  25. Fucking idiots. There are seriously deluded fuckwits about who honestly believe we live in a dictatorship. Unfortunately, I see those kinds of people on Facebook every day. Absolutely deranged and beyond saving. And of course most of this is fueled by the Nazis from the AfD party.

  28. Do you live in the US? Asking, because I seem to remember you wouldn't and if that's the case it's a bit precipitate to declare, whether Republicans and Democrats may or may not agree on the urgency of an issue, in my opinion. Even, if you do, you can only speak for the small part of that massive country, you live in and that part of published opinion you consumed. Edit: on a side note although you didn't mention it, personally I'd say a party having supported a former president, who's now demanding to be reinstalled against ther constitution having the majority in the HOR is a much bigger threat to undermine the constituional democracy, in my opinion., although I'm talking from outside the US.

  32. I follow Athletic Bilbao's results in Spain for similar reasons. They are a member-owned club and they only recruit from within the Basque area, although they have made exceptions over the years based on parental lineage.

  33. Sad developments in Indonesia. The western media seems to be focusing on the laws making pre-marital sex and cohabitation illegal, and while it's definitely bad, the other new laws are way, way worse than that. Insulting the president, state institutions and government officials is now a crime which carries a prison sentence of up to 4 years. Protests and demonstrations without permit are now criminalised, participants can be imprisoned for up to 6 months. The new treason law carries a death penalty. Spreading any ideology that runs counter to the national ideology (Pancasila) is now banned and punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Blasphemy laws are expanded, and apostasy can now be charged as a criminal offense, carrying a prison sentence of up to 4 years. Reporting and spreading news that "can be suspected" to be misinformation or cause public unrest is punishable by up to 6 years in prison. At the same time though, the new laws will include more lenient sentences for those charged with corruption. You can't make this shit up.

  34. English football media, England beat Senegal and the media are going crazy about how the England football team are the Bees Knees and going to win the World Cup or thereabouts, how Southgate has got it right this time etc. Cometh the hour and if England gets knocked out or loses the final if they make it then "Southgate is a wanker and should be sacked, the players he chose are shite...", it is always the same and has been like that since after 1966. It's not sour grapes by me because I follow Scotland and Australia more as I was born in England and left for Australia in 1959 so, really, I am English, my father was English and a Hammers nutter, I don't blame the English players picked but the English media put so much pressure on the players that they HAVE to win, if not, then they are wankers.

  35. It's our wedding anniversary today and we have chalked up 48 years together, it's been a long haul and I have experienced the plates, cups & saucers flung at me by my wee darling plus getting hit over the head with a frying pan and an old video remote controller when they first came out and looked like and felt like a bloody brick, just the normal things in married life. Luckily we did our celebrations yesterday with a good drink and a carry-out meal, we both wanted a quiet anniversary this year and told the family just call around during the week if they want, it's pissing down with rain outside so staying indoors looked like a good choice. Just sitting here relaxed drinking some wine and watching some movies etc and nibbling away on crisps and bits and pieces of nosh the wife laid out, this is the life, I won't try getting drunk today as I don't want to upset the wife and get a kick in the nuts, that's the normal thing that happens if I get drunk.

  38. I'm so relieved Füllkrug didn't get injured... Must be disappointing to not make it past the group stage, but honestly, I personally am just glad it's over and he returns healthy Performance wise, quite impressive, even with very little playing time. 3 matches, 66 minutes in total, 2 goals, 1 assist.
