  1. Even if The Premier League hadnt formed in 1992, I'm pretty confident we'd still have been heading in the same direction. It was the same year The Champions League rebrand started, and Serie A was a beast of its own after Italia 90. David Platt had joined Juventus for 6.5m, Gazza had left English Football for Lazio for 5.5m (reduced from 7.5m after his Gary Charles tackle), meanwhile United had signed Cantona from Leeds for 1.2m. The money and popularity of football was growing so the game still would have still attracted the same type of characters. Silvio Berlusconi was the original Super League advocate after all. Those characters involved in the English game would just more than likely be in charge of different teams on the European continent.
  2. So I was today years old when I learned about the Champion's League co-efficient payment. I know I am late to this and probably miles behind Newcastle fans, but this is outrageous. Newcastle and Man United can go out at the same stage and yet United get a much bigger financial reward from UEFA. I'm surprised it isn't being challenged in court as anti-competitive practice. It is so clearly designed to shut out clubs from breaking into the 'elite'.
  3. Just listened to the CM Punk interview. Pretty much confirms what we already knew. Jack Perry is a douche, nobody respects Tony Khan and the fake journalists are goofs that would create fake headlines from the interview. The big surprise is AEW didn't help him with his treatment for the torn bicept. At what point is Tony Khan going to start taking people's health seriously? When somebody gets paralysed or killed?
  4. If De Zerbi gets the job I think there will need to be a degree of patience until he gets the players in to play his system. I think Brighton will be content in getting compensation for him as long as Thiago Motta is interested in the job. That's about as like for like as a managerial replacement as you could ask for.
  5. Every game had a goal in the last ten minutes other than ours
  6. Given how many goals we've conceded in the last ten minutes, I refuse to get excited. However, if there's one bright spark this season it's the improvement of Jean-Phillipe Mateta. My biggest criticism of him was how weak he was for a man of his size, but now he looks as fit and as strong as he should be. He deserves a lot of credit for the changes he's made, as do all the staff that have worked with him this season.
  7. Roshan Mathurin is our only attacking player on the bench today. How the board thought it was acceptable to go two transfer windows without replacing Zaha, and four without replacing Benteke, still irritates me. Any other season and were deservedly down.
  8. That QPR win is massive for them. What a job Cifuentes is doing. Can certainly see bigger clubs looking at him and Rohl next season.
  9. Jesus, Leicester look like they're going to blow this. With all the off field misdemeanours, you have to wonder if they don't go up this season with this group of players they'll get sucked in to The Championship black hole for a couple of seasons.
  10. Sorry Cicero, next time I share something that's being reported by several news outlets simultaneously ill trawl through over two years of media articles on that football club just to check it's never been mentioned in passing, if you feel that's more of a priority than trying to evoke some form of discussion.
  11. This is a must not lose game for us. I'm sure Glasner would have appreciated three weeks to work on the 3-4-3 formation and specific instructions for certain opposition, but we are about to play Forest away at the worst time given the recent points deduction. Johnstone and Edouard have joined the never ending list of injured players too.
  12. I resent the statement that it was a mediocre week for Mercedes given I got over 80% of the points.
  13. Yeah, they've well and truly taken Chicago from AEW, which was arguably there hottest area. That Matt Jackson victory lap aged well.
  14. Hopefully tonight puts to bed the theory that Lewis Dunk is even close to being good enough to play for England ever again.
  15. Offshore accounts. From a man that's not from this country and whose UK Visa hasn't been renewed since 2018. Sounds like they've really dug deep.
  16. https://theesk.org/2024/03/24/the-reality-of-the-conditional-minded-to-approve-requirements/ It seems like the PL have said 777 have to fulfil certain criteria (which they also said 6 months ago) but have given a 1 month deadline to do it. That would cost a lot of money which 777 don’t have. They can’t convert the loan into equity as they can’t pay off the underlying loan they used to lend on to everton. There are also rules to limit the amount of debt an entity can use to buy a club to prevent another glazer situation. So this article essentially sees these are conditions it’s impossible for them to meet.
  17. I'd go 4-2-3-1 at the minute when everybody's fit given how impressive Foden has been on the left this season.
  18. I can't remember any outrage with the Team GB kits in the 2012 Olympics. Maybe it's those that moan about others being woke that are the woke ones here.
  19. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-03-22/miami-based-777-gets-conditional-approval-of-everton-fc-deal The Premier League trying to give the new regulator a hospital pass here.
  20. A transfer embargo in March. That'll teach them.
