I remember there being talk of that. But then if that was the case, it seems strange they'd sanction a signing like Benteke. Having said that, Liverpool's approach pre-Klopp was very scattergun
Yeah at the time it felt mad to keep him given the way we ended that season. It never felt like he would turn it around after the semi final defeat and the 6-1 seemed a massive case of him losing dressing room. Maybe the plan was to wait around for Klopp and if so, it's all worked out brilliantly.
Rodgers would have needed to have started the 15/16 season well to have had any hope of keeping his job. The end to the 14/15 season was terrible. Throw in the embarrassing FA Cup semi final defeat too. He could have had no complaints if he'd been sacked after the 6-1 at Stoke.
He was without doubt the best available at that point. I had very little faith at the time that the club would go out and get him though.
Fair point. Remarkable that he's conceded just five league goals though.
I think the issue is whether it's accurately measuring whether players are offside at the point the ball is played. The technology isn't completely accurate.
There's a huge drop off from Salah and Mane to their replacements. Can get by if they're missing for one game maybe but over a number of weeks? I think you're underestimating just how good they are. It would be difficult to keep up the form of the last 18 months without two of the best players in world football
It also depends on how the fixtures fall too of course
To be fair, they have which is why it was moved to the summer last time. Just not possible this time. I don't know why they need to have it every two years though
"When you play Man City in the Carabao Cup and they put their strongest team out, you know that you're going places," he said.
"Because that means that they respect us."
Christ, that's actually Hodgson-esque
Got two trips planned so far this year. Few days each in Dublin in April and Bucharest in June. Hopefully do a more chilled beach type holiday in September/October too
To be honest, I'm not interested in these records when there's still two other competitions we can win. They only really become relevant if we go out of the other two cups and if we secure the league mathematically
