  1. This is how my house looks at the moment with all the Christmas lights up!
  2. Yeah I have to admit, the UN might well do something useful if there's a fracas between a couple of smaller countries in Africa, but when it comes to bigger conflicts it seems to be in a worse state of gridlock than the US Congress, and that's saying something
  3. "he met with his British publisher to talk about The Winds of Winter. He doesn’t say anything about how close it is to being done, just that he talked about it. That conversation could have involved him handing over a manuscript, or it could have involved his publisher sitting across from Martin and weeping out of fear that the book will never be finished. We do not know."
  4. https://usrtk.org/covid-19-origins/visual-timeline-proximal-origin/ Everyone should read this imo. Very well referenced portrayal of the key scientists involved in establishing the widespread view that covid was a naturally occurring virus not a lab leak.
  5. This is right. I mean I have my fucking CV on my work laptop because it's the only computer I have at the moment. Surely I can take that with me when I leave!
  6. Yeah I think so. When company politics is getting to the point of leaving you jaded it's time to move on... I know for sure USBs are blocked, as is Google drive and drop box... I think Microsoft OneDrive is still accessible through the work computers, but can they actually track what I would drag from my desktop into that?
  7. Hey, I'll be leaving my current job soon. I'm wondering if it's possible to take a few files and documents with me when I leave, but it seems to have been blocked by the IT department. Does anyone have smarts about this? Obviously not anything sensitive but just a few things that would be useful to me to remember.. IT controls have come a long way in the last decade from when I changed jobs previously. Any ideas @Mel81x @nudge?
  8. Agree. If you put link's awakening down for a week you'll plug it back in and end up trying to remember what you're meant to be doing. I never played the original but it was a lovely game to play, and really highlights the genius of game design.
  9. I'd recommend Mario Wonder if you're looking for shorter, punchier games. It'll still take a good while to finish with some incredibly hard levels but you don't forget the plot etc the way you can with a Zelda game. Links awakening is good too though
  10. To me that seems like a story that would build anti Israel support on the far right, which just seems a bit too convenient.
  11. Good op ed by Tony Blinken. US secretary of state. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/10/31/antony-blinken-biden-aid-ukraine-israel-gazans/
  12. Statement from former Australian prime minister's
  13. The US army invaded Mosul and Fallujah to break up Al Qaeda and ISIS and in both cases there were significant civilian casualties. In a world of grey where all options are terrible in some way there are sometimes needs for terrible things to happen. I'm not a supporter of Israel. In particular I hate the way the label of "aNtI sEmitisM" is abused to try to coerce people into unconditional support. but it's worth remembering the government of the land that's about to be invaded have kidnapped 200 Israelis and are holding them hostage and proposing to execute them.
  14. It's more joyous than I expected. They really recaptured some childhood magic with this one.
  15. Currently playing Mario Wonder and loving it. Like a new and improved and completely modernised Super Mario World from SNES.
  16. There's also this being decent logic too imo. https://twitter.com/GeoConfirmed/status/1714390274900734049?t=-5D4a_fzg1cpnOW2NG8C2A&s=19
  17. Decent tweet thread explaining evidence for this explanation
  18. I'm hoping for the biggest polling error in history
  19. Pretty gutted about this forthcoming referendum result.

Well done Mel on a brave decision. Enjoy the 30 days surging and trekking. Hope the weather's good wherever you are!
  21. I would think it's less of a premeditated plan and more a reaction of fleeing a sinking ship. If you're like him you are seeing the way mainstream culture is now, that it's more anti celebrity, and very throw away, as being completely at odds with your own personal values and you have nowhere to go but outside the box.
  22. I was in a bad mood when I watched it but I took issue with the portrayal of the real world being such a patriarchy.
  23. Saw the Barbie movie. Didn't like it. Just felt a bit too indoctrinate-y.
  24. I think we're subscribed to 4 services, and only the kids use them. Would prefer to cut them all and just pay to watch specific shows on iTunes. That would be much more satisfying
