  1. To me that seems like a story that would build anti Israel support on the far right, which just seems a bit too convenient.
  2. Good op ed by Tony Blinken. US secretary of state. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/10/31/antony-blinken-biden-aid-ukraine-israel-gazans/
  3. Statement from former Australian prime minister's
  4. The US army invaded Mosul and Fallujah to break up Al Qaeda and ISIS and in both cases there were significant civilian casualties. In a world of grey where all options are terrible in some way there are sometimes needs for terrible things to happen. I'm not a supporter of Israel. In particular I hate the way the label of "aNtI sEmitisM" is abused to try to coerce people into unconditional support. but it's worth remembering the government of the land that's about to be invaded have kidnapped 200 Israelis and are holding them hostage and proposing to execute them.
  5. It's more joyous than I expected. They really recaptured some childhood magic with this one.
  6. Currently playing Mario Wonder and loving it. Like a new and improved and completely modernised Super Mario World from SNES.
  7. I'm still playing it when I can, which is maybe one a week. Mostly I play it with mates and use it as a social catch up where we chat and play.
  8. There's also this being decent logic too imo. https://twitter.com/GeoConfirmed/status/1714390274900734049?t=-5D4a_fzg1cpnOW2NG8C2A&s=19
  9. Decent tweet thread explaining evidence for this explanation
  10. I'm hoping for the biggest polling error in history
  11. Pretty gutted about this forthcoming referendum result.

Well done Mel on a brave decision. Enjoy the 30 days surging and trekking. Hope the weather's good wherever you are!
  13. On average you will lose money and the company selling the tickets will make money. Of course you may get lucky and be the person who actually does win from that, but the more tickets you buy the more likely you are to converge on the average result of you losing money.
  14. I would think it's less of a premeditated plan and more a reaction of fleeing a sinking ship. If you're like him you are seeing the way mainstream culture is now, that it's more anti celebrity, and very throw away, as being completely at odds with your own personal values and you have nowhere to go but outside the box.
  15. I was in a bad mood when I watched it but I took issue with the portrayal of the real world being such a patriarchy.
  16. I think I'd probably go with Charlize Theron. She was the most beautiful woman alive as far as I was concerned. But was it a crush? In the pre Instagram era the crushy feeling fade because you're not seeing them every day. Maybe someone from Neighbours could've been a more sustained crush with the nightly episodes... Holly Vallence? Lisa McCune? Dunno
  17. Saw the Barbie movie. Didn't like it. Just felt a bit too indoctrinate-y.
  18. I think we're subscribed to 4 services, and only the kids use them. Would prefer to cut them all and just pay to watch specific shows on iTunes. That would be much more satisfying

    Andrew Tate

My original post was talking about Peterson not Tate. First time I've really felt caught out was during covid where I had to pick a team. Antivaxxers or ardent lockdown supporters who would blindly support any and all lockdown measures without evidence including keeping (my young) children home from school for close to a year. No ability to say "maybe the risk reduction benefit vs cost to the under 12 age group might justify keeping them in school or at least partially in school through some of this?" The discourse was staggeringly reductive and it was impossible to question any aspect of The Science™. I've then come to realise just how often that same side of the political aisle's most ardent, online supporters resort to labelling to avoid engaging on substance.

Yeah I think that's a fair call as well. I watched that Tucker Carlson interview and it was packed to the eyeballs with lies about his criminal cases (and hypocrisy with regards to him being the antithesis of much of what he espouses) but he also does say some things that would resonate with many people frustrated by the lack of nuance in mainstream discourse.

I think the biggest strength he has in getting people's attention is the extent to which he's been branded public enemy number 1 by much of the left, and is almost too controversial to be included in mainstream media discourse. This leads certain types of people to seek him out. With the alt right now they are so geared towards contrarianism you can pretty much control them by reverse psychology.

Of course. It goes without saying that the women being exploited deserve massive emmpathy. But the men are often dismissed as angry scumbags

Yeah it doesn't really add up that he moved to Romania because he "just fell in love with the place".

Succinct a.f! I feel sorry for the men too tbh. Many men feel that some of the impacts major social shifts are having on them are being glossed over and minimised (for the greater good), and they're hurting and they don't know how to express it. The fact they don't see it being discussed in more mainstream sources leads them to more unconventional ones, and waiting in the wings are grifters like Tate to cash in on their grievance.
