  1. I still don't see what particular significance the Tarly sword should have over any of the other Valyrian steel swords owned by the major families. John already has longclaw.
  2. Yeah. I hated the greyjoy plotlines though so wasnt sorry to see that. The shortening of the dornish plot bugged me though. Book 4 just annoyed me in general tbh with it lacking in so many of the major characters. Interestingly GRRM said he most regrets the omission of lady stoneheart from the show. I thought that was among the dumber sub plots di didn't miss it at all. Do you recall if the plot of Sam taking heartsbane from Horn Hill occurred in the books..? I don't think it did and I'm interested why they've bothered to write it in... Is that the sword that becomes lightbringer? Will he use it himself? Will he give it to Mormont?
  3. Did anyone else seriously question the overall plausibility of Theons episode 1 story line?
  4. I've been pondering over this piece from the books since I saw today's episode... The Legend of Lightbringer Darkness lay over the world and a hero, Azor Ahai, was chosen to fight against it. To fight the darkness, Azor Ahai needed to forge a hero's sword. He labored for thirty days and thirty nights until it was done. However, when he went to temper it in water, the sword broke. He was not one to give up easily, so he started over. The second time he took fifty days and fifty nights to make the sword, even better than the first. To temper it this time, he captured a lion and drove the sword into its heart, but once more the steel shattered. The third time, with a heavy heart, for he knew before hand what he must do to finish the blade, he worked for a hundred days and nights until it was finished. This time, he called for his wife, Nissa Nissa, and asked her to bare her breast. He drove his sword into her breast, her soul combining with the steel of the sword, creating Lightbringer, while her cry of anguish and ecstasy left a crack across the face of the moon.[1] According to the Jade Compendium, since that day the sword became as warm as Nissa Nissa was and burned fiery hot during battles. Lightbringer was able to boil the blood of a monster when Azor Ahai thrust the sword through the belly of the beast. After steam poured from the beast's mouth and its eyes melted, its body burst into flame.
  5. 48 hours from first airing? I'm not even sure I can do spoiler tags in posting from a mobile phone...
  6. Really enjoying peaky blinders season 4.
  7. My main predictions for this season... 1. Thrones to kill Euron and bring the iron born and golden company to fight against the night King 2. Bran to be shown to have been instrumental in instigating events that caused Roberts rebellion 3. Major late twist. Just when you thought there was peace and stability and bright future someone makes a major power play.
  8. Surely any new vote would need to be more than an A or B scenario...? Mays deal, no Deal, or remain. Ranked from 1 to 3. That way you'll be able to establish where the majority consensus lies with clear defined options on the table rather than having people voting with some hypothetical best case scenario in mind that the EU would never agree to...
  9. Could you go to a public vote with 4 options using a preference based system? I could see an argument for a second vote if it opened up the options to get a clearer picture...

    Ladies feet

I'll never understand this as a thing.
  11. Ralph breaks the internet A worthy addition to the Disney animation studios Pantheon. 7.5/10
  12. But surely there are easier ways to create openings up above, such as just vote to oust. Why accept a deal to make it happen?
  13. Started season 4 of peaky blinders... I'm liking the look of these Italians!
  14. So I've rewatched season 7 and all set to go. A few things I'd forgotten about... Theon going off to rescue Yara has the potential to bring the iron born back to the right side. The golden company also have the potential to fight for either side.
  15. Why read 3 books in parallel mate?
  16. Speaking as an engineer its pretty easy to understand how things like this can happen. A potential scenario that appeared to be extremely unlikely by a qualified team up front will be viewed with hindsight as a disaster waiting to happen by the general public if anything ever goes wrong. It comes down to tolerable risk. Most things that get inspected for safety reasons come up with a range of improvement opportunities. Some things are deemed to be critical enough for a recall, others can wait till next major service or other update, and in some cases the solution to the problem takes time to develop and the question becomes what to do in the interim.
  17. I honestly think Teresa May has the worst job in the entire world right now. I'm shocked she hasnt spat the dummy, launched a scathing attack on the majority of the parliament, mic dropped and got the fuck out of there.
  18. I'd say he is more stark than targ. I don't think Jon will end up on a dragon until the last episode. It will be gutting. I fucking hate George rr Martin now. He's the incarnation of the TV shows version of Dorian Martell... just sitting on his fucking hands wwhen the people expect more.
  19. How to train your dragon. 8/10
  20. I remember leading up to the initial vote the flavor of this equivalent thread seemed to be leaning leave. It seems now that most here now lean towards it being a mistake. But many still think let's just get on with it now rather than vote again... interested whether those like @RandoEFC and @Stan who don't want a second vote would still vote leave if second referendum went ahead or if they'd begrudgingly take their chance away a do over. The way I hear it portrayed over here there's a pretty huge difference between leave with no deal and leave with the current deal. So you'd think a new vote would get a 1, 2, 3 preference on the 3 outcomes...
  21. Is there any polling data on the leave or remain issue to give cause to think the majority opinion has shifted? If so by how much?
  22. Totally agree. Though on the other hand that costs you 50k whereas you're insured for burglary. I'd do it though to catch the bastards doing it.
