  1. An unusual move by Sevilla appointing Montella, but in no way does it make it a bad thing. I think Montella is a decent manager, and is improving but is far from a top level coach yet. His best coaching job was at Fiorentina and I think they are very comparable in stature to Sevilla. Frankly, he should have committed his self to Fiorentina and built on his team there. Recently, at Milan has been a troubled time. Last season, with no money to spend and a reliance on young players they had a hugely impressive start to the season and faded badly after winning the Super Cup. I thought he would have done better this season with Milan (who were in a very similar position to his first season at Fiorentina) but impatience got the better of the owners. Looking at results since his sacking, they should probably have stuck with him. Will be interesting to see how he constructs his staff. Whether he brings over people he is familiar with from Italy, or people who have been working in Spain.
  2. Roma has a buy-back option on Sanabria for around €11 million and it seems like they are going to make use of that option in January to sell him on.
  3. The most worrying thing for Barcelona in that article is that the wage bill is 84% of their revenue. That's monstrous and reminiscent of how many football teams begin to get in financial problems.
  4. £304 million over 30 years doesn't seem like an an awful lot for having their name on probably the most famous stadium in Europe.
  5. https://en.valenciacf.com/ver/74635/a-renewed-project-for-the-new-stadium-with-the-fans-at-the-heart-of-the-priorities.htmlS Seems Valencia is looking to finally finish what they started almost a decade ago now.
  6. Don't know for certain how accurate this is, but he is usually right, but one team seems very out of place on this list...
  7. I heard somewhere that the Spanish transfer window doesn't close until Friday night. Is that true? So still a chance for Coutinho etc to move?
  8. That belittles the competition. Winning the trophy should be enough for any team.
  9. The last thing that Barca should be doing is buying players that wouldn't immediately help their starting eleven. It just drives up the cost of their squad unnecessarily. Look at the amount of money spent on Vermaelen and Mathieu, why couldn't Bartra have had their role and game time. Probably would have stayed and been a better, cheaper option. Or money on Digne, for the amount he plays was it worth the money instead of keeping Grimaldo. I'm not saying he is as good, but Digne hardly played. And is that worth €20million plus his wages which would be much more? Or buying Cillessen, a backup goalkeeper, for €15million really good use of funds? By all means, buy players that will make a difference. But they really need to stop wasting money on average squad players, that force out younger cheaper talent from their youth teams.
  10. This is a football forum. I posted up football news. Probably someone will have some thoughts on it. Otherwise what's the point of this website?
  11. I'm not sure that anyone can complain about the job he has done so far. Seems like him and Real are just about the perfect fit.
  12. €40 million, and then €100k a week for a 30 year old? One that probably would be a back up? Barcelona have made some absolutely horrendous transfer decisions in the last 6/7 years, but this would be the worst.
  13. When are the next elections for Barcelona? And what has happened to the youth players? Far too many overpriced, overpaid, mediocre players at Barcelona in the last 3/4 years. Almost turning back into the Barcelona of the early 2000s.
  14. Not exactly going out on a limb here, but that is a good signing for Fiorentina.
  15. By saying only football can be like this. It's not that special.
  16. That's a very arrogant and elitist way of thinking about other sports.
  17. 3 years on from the World Cup in Brasil, what is the legacy that has been left? I remember seeing not soon after, there was stadiums left empty and to essentially die. Stories of even the Maracana being left in ruins due to lack of maintenance and funding for it.
