  1. Buying potential. Two expensive backup full backs that we'd be expecting to become first team within the next 12-24 months. Burn will continue on at left back until Hall takes his chance when he gets it.
  2. There's so much inconsistency so far in punishing dissent. Even within games. I suppose that might be fine if they punish enough times to make it a deterrent. Jury's still out for me whether they will. Without doubt there's going to be teams that pay a price which another team on another day doesn't. That could determine big events. Ensue bitterness. It's always been the case that outcomes for a season are impacted by what ref you got what day and what day that ref was having. Far more of an impact than it should have for this sport to be fair.
  3. Deep fried, dropped on the floor, swept back into their packet and handed over to me via the McDonalds drive thru window
  4. Why Mike Dean did what he did has been totally lost in all this. Managers and players have created a toxic culture that has got referees scared. To the point a ref compromised professional integrity for compassion. Whilst I'm all for putting a mic on the refs like in Rugby, it has to coincide with strong discipline from managers and players or refs will be on a further hiding to nothing.
  5. This one is a bad loss for the Premier League as opposed to most of the others. Here's someone who scored a lot of goals for a lower ranked side. Raises the standard of the league.
  6. It needs a new term. The term sports Sportswashing helps white people absolve themselves from their role in this. They're not concealing their human rights record, they're calling you out as not really caring about it beyond some words now and then. They're using Neymar to double down on that bet about us. Rubbing it in your face. Tony Blair is their advisor which is probably how they came to see us for what we are. At the same time you do wonder if the Saudi's are naive and it will all end sour as hosting the world cup did for Qatar. Where senior officials were greatly offended and taken aback by the focus on human rights after previously being allowed to frolick around Paris and London as they saw fit.
  7. He will get paid $500k for every positive social media post about Saudi Arabia
  8. It's embarrassing for the club and the city. Big test for Amnesty International though. If they can't disrupt this then they're not worth much more than a few lines to fuel the clickbait industry. The Saudi's have priced in that we have nothing more than words.
  9. The bias in the BBC commentary is hilarious. All those Aussie chances met with monotone and delay like nothing was happening. Then screams for England's chance and goal class
  10. I'm starting to think Chelsea might get a top half finish this season
  11. Fair enough really. If West Ham won't match his wage why should he give away money just to go there. Two way street. If he was the dogs bollocks and Man City wanted to buy him and double his wage then Man Utd could say no and there's nothing he can do.
  12. Last season was an exception. Typically over the last 5 years he's about an 18-20 league goal striker. Expect the same.
  13. The last couple of seasons are seeing huge fees for young players after 1 Premier League season looking alright for 10 or so games.
  14. I understand that but ultimately referees in the lower leagues are worse by virtue of the system. That doesn't necessarily mean their stats on errors is worse though, the game is different between leagues. Different pace. Different pressure. The better referees are at the top. You should have made it to the Premier League on the basis that the data shows you are better over a certain period of time in each league beloe. Surely you wouldn't make it to this level if you needed to be trained on the existing rules. You should have had enough training by this point. If the data shows over a sustained period your numbers drop you need to drop a league to rediscover form or because youre not Premier League level, perhaps you need a time out or less games. I do believe referees will have good and bad days and their judgment will be influenced by external factors in their life and experience, even by their fitness. Relegating doesn't necessarily mean you get someone dogshit, it means you get someone who was good enough for that level but not the next or has lost form. Something the data will quickly establish when you start refereeing in the Championship again.
  15. Every game should have 3 VAR judges. They vote. If 3-0 decision over turned. If 2-1 against the ref then the ref reviews. If 2-1 in favour of the ref then decision stands. Drop the clear and obvious. Relegate refs whose initial judgment is the worst.
  16. You are allowed a £105m loss over a 3 year period. If they spread their purchases out over 5 years but sales revenue in less they probably can do this. If the Saudi's bought their players with cash then even more so. It's if they don't finish in the top 4 they will probably have to fire sale or could be in big trouble.
  17. You dont get much from the first episode. Maybe some embarrassing comments about Anthony Gordon and a surprising confidence about finishing in the top 4 in January.
  18. Anyone else feel like Sky have a lot more adverts now as well? Yesterday there must have been about 7 minutes of ads then it went to studio where they said Bournemouth 1 West Ham 1 then went straight back to adverts
  19. Super start. Was expecting a high scoring draw or high scoring 1 goal win for us. I think most of the game was looking like that until Villa mentally collapsed after the third. Some warning signs for them there. Kamara especially a quitter. Disappointed there was only 5 minutes stoppage time because we probably would have got another if there was the new 10 mins. Gordon was good as expected. Lot of hope he can deliver now he's in form. Tonali very good. Isak's 2nd absolute class. Could be a big year for him if he stays fit. Squad depth in attack very good. When you can bring Wilson and Barnes on you will be relentless.
  20. I may come to understand this transfer in the coming months when I see how we use him but right now I don't know why we'd spend that much on a backup. I understand the need, that Trip can't be expected to play a 55+ game season, but it is a big chunk of money when FFP is a handcuff. But in the club we trust at the minute. Gordon seemed a strange expensive backup as well but there's a very good chance he can become first team early this season.
  21. Another one? It would have been easier if the Saudi's just bought Liverpool and moved the club to Riyahd.
