  1. I think one of the purpose of that article was to scare people into taking this pandemic seriously. If it achieves that purpose, I will be glad. @topic More entitled idiots.
  2. It's just a closure for the family, who wanted the criminals to be hanged to death. They went through hell these years fighting against quite a few arseholes in judiciary or media, so I am relieved for them. Here are few things that bug me. 1) In our judicial process everyone gets to go through 3 levels of court and can seek mercy from President even after that. Not only did these convicts go through that, but after the President's approval for hanging, they submitted several frivolous petitions in court to stop the hanging (like don't hang us because there is too much air pollution which will kill us eventually, don't hang us because there is a pandemic going on currently, etc to name a few) which must have been gut wrenching for the family to watch. All this was driven by the money funneled through NGOs that usually oppose death penalty. Now I understand the wider debate around it (and we need to have that debate), but the way these organisations tried to save these guys was disgusting. Definitely tough on the family of the victim, who in fact were even mocked on one occasion by a high profile NGO lawyer ( which was unnecessary). 2) Then there is the case of the Juvenile rapist. The lad who was the youngest but the most brutal. He was couple of months shy of his 18th birthday and hence tried as a juvenile. Which meant he stayed in jail for few months and is currently out living his life under a new name. He should have been tried as a adult and at least left to rot in jail forever. Again remember he was the most brutal. 3) Lastly, on the wider debate of cultural changes, then there is still a lot to be done. And more importantly we need police reforms.
  3. This piece reads like a fabulously written fiction story, except it's real. Kinda explains how the virus spreads in different situations. Great read this. https://nymag.com/intelligencer/amp/2020/03/the-story-of-a-coronavirus-infection.html?utm_campaign=The Interface&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Revue newsletter&__twitter_impression=true
  4. Even Australia and Thailand have stated that the same. Apparently, anti Malaria drug is working. Though more testing is needed on this. The Americans have now asked its medical authorities to use the anti Malaria drug. Also, read couple of conflicting reports that it might not work, or has bad side effects when taken along with HIV meds.
  5. This. That is the only way the world can control China. The amount of dependence every other country has on China due to its massive manufacturing market is staggering. They are fast losing their textile markets to Vietnam and Bangladesh. There is competition from us in the market of generic medicines. Hopefully others step up too in other fields. The least everyone could do is force them reform their huge wet markets. Otherwise we will continue to have these diseases once every decade.
  6. There was a lovely man here in South India who missed his father's funeral due to quarantine. He watched it via video calling. He turned out to be negative for Corona. And there are entitled idiots like the man mentioned in this tweet, who could very well have spread it to several people.
  7. This is not surprising. The world must not forget China's part in this pandemic, especially now when it's attempting a nice propaganda to whitewash it's terrible conduct during the initial outbreak in its countries. We all know what happened to the whistleblower doctors.
  8. I think most of them can be rewatched multiple times, except for Grave of the Fireflies. I just felt really sick watching it. It's one of the best anti-war movies. On a side note, I am planning to adopt a cat and name it Totoro.
  9. Welcome to the fanclub, mate. Nice to see that like me you too loved Princess Mononoke the most. Also, if you have time to waste you should read about alternate interpretations of some of these movies. Apparently, Spirited Away is a fucked up story about prostitution and the innocent My Neighbour Totoro can be deemed as dark. Lastly, I don't know if you have watched Grave of Fireflies. If you haven't then you should.
  10. We are going to see more and more stupidity from celebrities. And this has to be the most Jared Leto things ever.
  11. Absolutely spot on. They hid data. They hid facts. And worse they are now buying adspace in international media to whitewash their crimes, or by giving meagre help to badly affected countries like Iran and Italy, to win brownie points. China needs to be held fucking accountable for their actions by the rest of world, when this is all over. And they should start by reforming their wet markets first.
  12. Finally some measure against idiots who are running away from quarantine. Meanwhile, there is talk of shutting down public transport like local trains and buses, which are usually crowded.
  13. Interesting. I thought it was a good watch. Wife absolutely hated it. In fact, when I said, ' So what's the big deal if Rey is a Palpatine?' She didn't speak with me for the rest of that day. Not kidding.
  14. China going into overdrive with a wonderfully orchestrated propaganda. I hope we never forget how they hid data and cases. On a side note, at office currently, but have been told to work from home on alternate days. So basically we will always have 50% of staff at office, while 50% work from home, and then the groups exchange places the next day. This is not ideal, but better than having to come to work on all 5 days. My only worry is transport. But at least the government is regularly disinfecting local trains and buses. Though, I doubt whether that would work. Cases are slowly rising. Thankfully more and more state governments are bring out stringent laws against gatherings, or people running away from quarantines.
  15. We are seeing a slow increase in the numbers, largely because of infected people running away from hospitals or quarantine. Absolute idiots. So now they have brought in a law to punish such behaviour. Pune, the worst hit city, will have all its shops (except pharmacies and grocery) closed for the next three days. Everywhere in the country, all schools, colleges, theatres, gyms, malls will now remain closed till 31st March. Meanwhile, in my city trains remain crowded because companies are not letting people work from home. This is getting scarier by the day.
  16. I am not a medical expert, so who's to say whether UK's method is not wrong in the long run. But to hear the officials speak so calmly about 'wanting' 60% of the population getting infected to develop herd immunity at the cost of several deaths is so chilling. I suppose, people supportive of that plan could argue that they might see similar results or worse with other strategies, as well. Anyways, I am speaking of this video in particular. The person whose tweet I am putting out is a scientist who is working in the field of Malaria and Tuberculosis and he knows his medical stuff, and he doesn't like it.
  17. Can't be @Mel81x. There's more chance of you and me doing it, maybe @Asura . Those are the only Hindus here. But on a serious note, those idiots are known idiots who often do these shitty stunts after calling the media to cover them to get their 15 mins of fame. And the media obliges. Most people don't drink it. Only few idiots like him do. And cow dung is used as fuel in methane gases in villages, which are also on the decrease now with more and more LPG gas connections. @Harvsky Yeah, read that about inflammatories. I don't think @nudge and I were speaking on Turmeric for Corona. But normal colds and sore throats. Though turmeric might help make your immune system stronger. Also, garlic.
  18. Regarding turmeric. Add a spoonful of it in warm milk, along with sugar. Have it before bedtime. It will rid you of sore throat, cough and even cold. Will also reduce your body's heat issues ( non flu heat), if you have any. Will improve your immune system as well.
  19. Idiots running away from quarantines are going to kill us all. The latest was a British tourist who ran away and boarded a plane. Now he along with 20 other passengers from that plane have been offloaded and quarantined. I think the government needs to bring in a law to punish people like this. One state, UP , has already brought in law where people like these will be fined or jailed. I hope others follow that. Stockpiling has started happening here as well, though not of toilet papers (since we wash), but there were mad scenes at my usual grocery store. So, opted against going to that crowded place. Hand sanitizers are gone. People, especially the so called educated ones, are behaving in the worst possible way.
  20. Yep, it's getting scarier by the day. No longer just have to worry about old people.
  21. Read news that stated that 50% of serious cases in France, who are admitted to the ICU are under 60. Here the biggest issue is arseholes, who are running away from quarantine (happened in two different cases, before they caught and returned to quarantine) and secondly people who are refusing to get tested or treated citing religion (happened in two cases). Also, there has been a case in Japan of a individual getting reinfected. That's scary.
  22. But this is not a bioweapon. Almost all experts have stated that several times.
  23. Still doesn't stop them from looking down upon us or straight up writing lies, case in point British Economist Jim O'Neil's recent comments or Independent's fake coverage. On a serious note, there is a reason why developing or third world nations are handling this better. 1) We are used to such situations. Here we dealt with worst diseases like Nipah virus or Encephalitis. We learned from them and reformed our system. Made it stronger. Doesn't mean we will escape Corona's wrath, but it means we are better prepared to handle it. 2) It's easier to give out harsher orders in developing countries to public than in first world nations. Easier to shut down places and put in restrictions. Can't see that happening easily in first world countries, without people crying freedom and rights and standing up against governments.
  24. Netflix for me. The stuff there is more adult-ish. Stories are less generic compared to Amazon. Stories on Netflix dare and take a risk. Their original foreign content is fascinating (Dark, Trapped, Sacred Games, Money Heist). At least the series are brilliant. They have some hidden gems in their movie section (I am speaking of brilliant small, indie flicks). Their original movies though have been severely underwhelming. I am currently on Netflix's mobile plan which 199 Rs/month and that roughly converts to 2 and half dollars. Amazon's stuff is mostly generic, with better production values. All in all Netflix over Amazon for me.
