  1. I pay 300$ for a spacious 2 bedroom apartment (ca. 100 square meters) with a balcony about 5 minutes away from the beach.
  2. Have you read any Kafka before? Used to love his work when I first read it years ago; especially The Process, The Metamorphosis, and Letter to his Father. It's a shame he actually destroyed most of his manuscripts and drafts before his death...
  3. Started reading The Feynman Lectures on Physics as I want to refresh my knowledge which is quite rusty at this point... Feynman had a great talent to explain complex ideas very simply and make it accessible to anyone; this must the best educational book ever.
  4. Just watched the pilot episode of Oasis: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6268052/ It's a new mysterious and surreal sci-fi show with recognisable Solaris and Dune undertones, based on Michael Faber's novel The Book of Strange New Things and starring Richard Madden. Loved the pilot; very interesting narrative, good acting, amazing directing and cinematography. I hope it will be turned into a full series by Amazon Studios, as it really has great potential.
  5. Both Ramayana and Mahabharata were on my school curriculum, hehe... Abridged versions, of course, but still. Kamasutra was a gift of my cheeky friends for my 18th birthday, I was also surprised how much of it was about the philosophy of love and relationships, contrary to the common perception of it being a wild sex manual, haha. It was so popular among my friends that I actually only kept the book for a week or two; everyone started borrowing it afterwards, and I'm sure that after 13 years it's still being shared in the circles of friends of friends Thanks for your recommendations, I'll google them and then order a few right away! UPDATE: decided on the Ibis Trilogy, found all three books for $33 on the Book Depository! Cheers again
  6. Sorry, only saw this now, but thanks for recommendation! Any particular suggestions on which books I should try? No poetry please. Other than The White Tiger, the only Indian literature I've read so far is Mahabharata, Ramayana, some of the Pali Canon, Rabindranath Tagore and Kama Sutra Also Salman Rushdie, if it counts.
  7. TrstntheGr1m, everyone thinks his name is Tristan
  8. Oh wow, congratulations! Do you know if it's a boy or a girl yet? Egypt sounds cool, too.
  9. oh cool, I hope he joins, I need a HSV fan to laugh at when we thrash them on Easter Sunday Seriously though, there are still a few people missing; Chadwell, Torsten, Joel, jobosno. Teo is not joining us then, I take it?
  10. We should, and I think we will, but the margin is so small we could still end up in a relegation playoff if everything goes against us. I think Ingolstadt and Darmstadt are definitely going down, but they are not playing that bad and it will be tough until the very end.
  11. What a beautiful run: 13 points, 4 wins/1 draw and only 2 goals conceded in the last 5 matches. Now it's important to win or at least draw against HSV (probably will be the deciding match of the season) and Ingolstadt, and get as many points as possible against Freiburg, Hertha, Köln and Frankfurt, and then we should hopefully be safe, although the fight for survival is soooo tight again this year, anything could still happen. If only it was that exciting at the top of the table, haha... Regardless of how it goes, I hope Alex Nouri will get a new contract. It's refreshing to finally see a manager who actually has a concept, adapts the team tactics and formation to the opposition, and reacts on what's going on on the pitch.
  12. Watching movies with subtitles is great, listening to radio is great, just reading news and books is great - all this helps you build passive knowledge of a language, but it's crucial to actually practice talking (or at least writing) if you want to gain active command of it, there's no way around it, I'm afraid.
  13. Or just go to your profile and there's a "write a public message on your own feed" - I suppose it's the same status thing?
  14. No wonder, otherwise they'd have to tell you all about your government helping create the conditions that allowed Pol Pot & Khmer Rouge to seize power and secretly supporting them for over 15 years Seriously though, after talking to many people from various countries, I realise that education in LT was ace.
  15. I should really start learning Khmer, but damn it's a weird language...
  16. Cool! How did you like it in Hungary? I was considering it a while ago too, together with Czech Republic.
  17. Where in Eastern Europe did you live? I'm weird, I don't get Heimweh at all.
  18. I'm actually in Cambodia, hehe. I prefer SE Asia to the rest of the world, so ideally I intend to stay here for as long as I can, but there are a lot of countries I'd consider if I had to (actually considered moving to Panama, Malta or Georgia (country, not the US State) a while ago, but decided to stay here for the time being). I'm very flexible and don't particularly care, so no idea where I might end up haha.
  19. hey, when you come from Lithuania in the early to mid 90s, Milwaukee seems like paradise, I think No, things are not that great in LT. It used to be pretty cool in 2000-2007 when the economy was growing fast, but it's not very rosy these days. Cost of living is rather high while the salaries are still low, emigration rate is immense, we lost over 15% of our population in the last 10-12 years. Working-age population is declining, social security system will inevitably collapse in the (near) future. Corruption and bureaucracy are still a problem.
