UK Politics & Brexit Discussion
The Artful Dodger replied to Bluebird Hewitt's topic in News & Politics
No, I'm suggesting that this is a gameplan by Cummings, make the MPs think No Deal is being actively pursued and see if they can make the MPs vote through a deal because they're scared of No Deal. -
While Wenger failed to make you competitive for titles you were always paying significantly more than the others trying to break the top 4. Wenger keeping you top 4 was not some massive achievement and when you fell out of it was only a matter of time before he went. You're a far wealthier, higher spending, higher wage paying club than Spurs for example, falling below them is unacceptable given what you pay out. At best Wenger was par for the course while he retained your top 4 position and then below it afterwards.

I suspect a lot of this designed to pressue MPs into voting through any terrible deal he brings back, think May's deal without even the worker protections that offered. MPs need to hold their nerve. -
Your wage bill was always top 4, you've always paid huge wages. Wages are probably a bigger indicator than transfer fees. Wenger was in no sense over achieving.

I have no alternatives to suggest, I'd accept this is probably as good as it gets for England. They just haven't got that many good players. -

Surely it's more sense, nobody would pick either Alli or Lingard. Very average squad, the defence especially is poor. -
You're wasting your time with facts and or evidence. This is anathema to conspiracy theorists, further proof that you are part of the Kool Aid supping masses taken in by the 'hoax'. Most conspiracy theorists are feeble minded, and insecure. They are intellectually incapable of establishing themselves in a world of rigorous intelligent debate and therefore retreat to a world where everything is true if you want it to be; make truth your enemy and then how can you lose? In normal times these sorts of people would be a fringe group of misfits and weirdos, they will always be there. However, we're seeing a new era of crass, idiot politics and it encourages the stupid and vain to join in. After all, if the most powerful can get away with blind idiocy then why not you or I? It's a terrible state of affairs but one we are all guilty of helping create. We have rewarded and admired stupid people, gazed at superficial beauty as some sort of achievement and worshipped at the altar of stupefying wealth for too long. Expect more of this in our mainstream, as we burn down our life source, deny our history and lie about our future, all you can do is laugh and enjoy how brazenly thick humanity is.

This forum really is the absolute pits, you get the moderators more upset you questioning their neutrality than actual holocaust denial.

If today doesn't show people the face of the Conservative party, the sneering at legality, the contempt for anything which stands in their way and the pure cynicism at their heart, then nothing will. Lower than vermin, indeed. -

I know what you're saying is coming from a good place and I would never devalue someone's loss. Loss is one thing all humans experience in common and knows no top and bottom. However, using it to build up your PR image is abhorrent and I think that's what Ferdinand was doing. Perhaps I'm wrong and I know im too cynical about most things but I doubt his sincerity. -

Ferdinand was a known cheat. Sorry I don't respect anyone who does that and then come out with this cynical PR stunt. Some people feel far more pain than he ever will and would be mortified at thought of making a show of it. Fuck him, total cunt. Ps didn't he have a new bird waiting in the wings that he announced shortly after? Cynicism is absolutely healthy in the world we live in I'm afraid. -

It's crass and poor taste to exploit tragedy like he did. I know it's trendy and acceptable to brag about your grief nowadays but i see nothing more than a cynical PR exercise. -

Ferdinand was superb. A calm, cool head who never looked troubled at his best. Could play a bit too. Partnered with a hard as nails centre back like vidic (or dare I say it, terry for England) it was the perfect centre back pairing. He did have the odd mistake in him but he should be remembered as great defender. As for him personally. His cynical exploitation of personal grief is sickening and he comes across as an absolute cretin. -
Boycott is a fucking bellend and it sums up that cunt May that she makes out she's a feminist and then Knights a convicted woman beater. He was found guilty on 3 occasions by the way, the first when he didn't bother to turn up, the second he did and then an appeal. The Tories 'law and order' except when it's their mates. Absolutely mad comparing Mccartney having a joint to battering a woman. Jesus. That's the sad thing about Cricket, it's infested with Tories!

The revelations of the past day or so are damming. It reveals a corruption at the heart of government greater than any seen before. -

While I'm happy for your personal success, you can't generalise an anecdote. The statistics paint a very different story. This isn't all top down, institutions at the bottom are failing too. Our education system is absolutely abysmal, with degrees now almost meaningless and a generation of vacuous narcissists now among us. Work ethic, knowledge and modesty are now things of the past. We've created the stupidest and most selfish culture. -

We're not even close to equal opportunity in this country and it's getting worse. Nobody is proposing equal outcomes but simply an attempt to balance our lopsided society which is crumbling. -

In what way? I'm simply pointing out that this idea that the EU is not some great force for good and is largely run in the interests of big business. I reluctantly accept its better to be jn that than have Farage or anyone like him with power but we need a left wing government most of all. You keep telling that me I'm a, 'fucking moron' for believing that for the left behind communities things aren't going to get much worse. They're a already at the point of desperation. The argument has no positive value and will lose, again, if put to a vote. -

The contempt for Thatcher is absolutely equalled across large swathes or the North and particularly the old mining towns. The economic arguments are in some ways valid, however the absolute scorn which tories had for society/communities meant the process was a horrific, ideological war rather than a staged process where subtite industries were created. That's the irony of the Brexit party etc. Run by a neo-thatcher zealot who believes in the creed thst destroyed many of these now ghost towns. We have to rid ourselves of the devotion to the free market. It is that that is really corroding the soul of Britain. In or out of the EU. -
