I agree, but not only did they refused to bring in external people, but they also don't learn from their competitor's products. At the end of the 2014 season McLaren send Honda their spare Mercedes engine. Alonso's problem is the amount of enemies he's made with his conduct. He can never go back to Ferrari. Both Vettel and Ferrari really don't like him. Renault GP is his only realistic option. I think Mercedes is clearly better than Ferrari. The difference is not as big as it used to be, but still Mercedes can win every qualifying with ease and they only struggle with the race on a few circuits where it's extremely hot.

Hamilton is now trying finish the race without another pit stop. Otherwise he'd fall behind Vettel again. There's no way his tires will last for another 22 laps. Mercedes must be hoping for at least 10 safety car laps. Desperate!

Vettel is pulling away. Bottas simply could not compete once Vettel's tires reached their optimal temperature. Bottas has now given up and let Hamilton overtake him.

This safety car was a massive help for Mercedes, but Vettel is ahead of Bottas nonetheless. Vettel now needs to drive fast enough to prevent Bottas from overtaking him, but at the sam time he needs to keep Bottas close enough to cause wear on Bottas' tires with his slip stream. After lap 35 Vettel needs to maintain a lead bigger than 1s in order to prevent Bottas from using his DRS.

Verstappen crashed and caused a yellow flag. It looked like a beginner's mistake, but it was probably a mechanical failure.

Bottas is slowing Vettel down, but Vettel can't overtake either.

Fantastic start from Vettel who was able to overtake Hamilton in the first turn and is now able to pressure Bottas. Raikönnen has fallen behind on the 7th place, unable to help Vettel who's inside the Mercedes sandwich.

In order to win a race the tires need to last a little longer than a couple of hot laps. It's difficult even for a team like Mercedes to fix an issue like overheating rear tires within a week. On the other hand Ferrari had trouble with their electronics.

Mercedes drove a racing setup instead of an qualifying throughout out the entire training. They are really determined to not let their tires overheat during the race. I wonder if they can win the qualifying nonetheless, it would be massive for them.

The race and qualifying are starting pretty late in Bahrain. I wonder how much the lower track temperatures will help Mercedes.

Finally Alonso will know what it feels like to sit in a proper car.
