  1. War For The Planet Of The Apes - 8/10 Andy Serkis deserves an Oscar. There's no getting around the power of his performance in this, the conclusion of the prequel Apes trilogy of films. In Rise, he portrayed the character of Caesar as a fast-maturing ape who was learning to grapple with his human side. In Dawn, we say that humanity firmly take hold after what was left of his peaceful ape habits began to fade. Now, in War, like Anakin Skywalker, his goodness is in constant battle with his darker side, and the result is at times chilling. But this is what makes Caesar as a character, so compelling. The film starts off really solidly. Action from the word go, fantastic scenery, and an absorbing plot which runs along at a fluent pace keeping you firmly absorbed for the first hour or so. After being teed up nicely, the second half of the film doesn't quite reach the high expectation levels set from the start for me. And I would also say that the film was a little longer than it needed to be given the direction in which they took it. However, that said, it is still more than enjoyable. If you liked the previous two, you will enjoy this film. Best compliment I would say is that film trilogy's have a habit of starting strong then getting weaker but in this case, the third film is as good, and probably a little better, than the first for me.
  2. 2 year loans are quite rare aren't they? Bayern have done very well out of that.
  3. Storts dangling that bait out big time for Danny to chomp on but even Stevie Wonder would see that one coming. You could never write them off. They play good football and are more than capable of finishing in the playoffs as they have done once before. Granted, they wouldn't be amongst my favourites but equally, I wouldn't be surprised if they did it.
  4. I want to see this. Without giving too much away though, would you say this is better or worse than Drive? (which I loved)
  5. Had a long weekend Stag do in Berlin. Brilliant trip. Some cracking stories but kid you not, the weirdest thing to happen was have a bloke naked in the park, wanking at us with his thumb up as we went by on the beer bike. Odd.

Hasan was a great find. Four consecutive three wicket hauls. What an impact he made on the tournament.
  7. Life Seen a lot of mixed reviews on this one but I have to say I thought it was a decent Sci-Fi thriller. I thought it was one of those films that has you hooked and whizz's by before you know it. I really enjoyed the palpable sense of tension the film created throughout. And it's unpredictable twists from start to finish. I certainly didn't see a couple things coming, which were brave moves by the directors. I don't want to elaborate anymore for fear of giving away spoilers but if you like a bit of tension with your sci-fi, it's worth checking out.

Too easy for India. The final had better be competitive or Pakistan can get fucked.

So frustrating. Pakistan were brilliant in all areas. I'd actually say, that's one of the best showings I've seen from them in the field as well because they can be quite sloppy. England really let themselves down today because they just didn't adapt to the conditions which favoured the Pakistani's more. Performance with the bat was poor. If Pakistan could make the runs they did in 40 odd overs, there's no reason why we couldn't have. We just seemed far too defensive and paralysed when we lost wickets. And by the time we got the ball, there just wasn't enough runs on the board to defend and put pressure on Pakistan batting to even give us a chance. But what can you do. This England team has come on leaps and bounds in the past year or so. We've gone from playing negative cricket and getting tonked to playing an exciting brand, pretty much regularly scoring 300+ with the bat and winning most of our one day format games. We agonisingly lost a Twenty20 final down to one man's brilliance in the last over and now having won three games convincingly, we've bowed out to an upredictable mercurial Pakistani team. That is one day cricket. Any team can beat you on the day and unfortunately the one time we were off colour, we were made to pay. Hopefully this bunch will taste success sooner or later in an ICC tournament because we're certainly deserving of it. Good luck to Pakistan in the final. I just hope if it's India they play, they don't capitulate and make the final a complete non event.

The only way England can win this game now is to bowl Pakistan out. Simple. And to do that we really need to have at least 5 wickets pegged before they get 130-140 on the board. I was hoping we would really rip into them from the off and have at least two wickets down in the first 10 overs but so far Pakistan have started well. It is theirs to lose now and that's the most disappointing thing.
  11. The Jack Reacher's were pretty uninspiring for me. I really found them dull when you compare them to the Mission Impossible's.
  12. Going to Berlin next weekend on a Stag. Where are the best places for a drink? Not going to spend all weekend on it mind. As well as the usual 'Stag activites', I plan to do sight seeing on the Sunday. What are the essentials? I'm thinking Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Checkpoint Charlie, TV Tower and what's left of the Wall.
  13. I'm not even joking. Seriously, save your money and wait for a download. It's gash.

South Africa have always choked in Cricket. They are perennial underachievers. How they haven't won a major ICC tournament is beyond me. Even Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the West Indies have more honours than them and they are perceived as 'weaker' nations in the game.

If it happens, it deserves to be an England v India final really. Clearly the two best teams in this competition. Toss of a coin who'd win as well.
  16. Wellllll....The Mummy was a big steaming pile of turd. What on earth were they thinking making that? Tom Cruise is really churning out some gash films on a regular basis now, it's killing his career.

Banglafuckingdesh. Wow. Amazing. Moment of the tournament so far for me. What a performance and totally deserved. God I hope we smash Australia now so Bangladesh get a shot in the semi final.

Sri Lanka were looking decent before those two silly run outs. Up to then, they looked to be managing the run chase really well. 102 more to win from 83 balls as I type. Doable...but I think India might just eek it out with a couple more vital wickets.

Big game for England tomorrow now. Win and that's the semi's guaranteed. There is also the added incentive now that we could knock Australia out if we beat them Saturday.

  21. Aside from Guardians of the Galaxy 2, I've seen some pretty bang average movies recently. Really has been a slog watching them. But I did see Get Out. And whether it was because I'd seen so many gash films, I felt this one was a real hit. The film is genuinely eerie. Instead of cheesy music and grotesque torture porn, the director relies on the unknown to draw you in and make you think, what is happening here? The plot builds like a slow boil to a terror explosion. Clues to the outcome are evident from the first second, but it takes the entire run-time to pull everything together. It knows what it wants to say and how to say it, balancing wildly contrasting tones and defeating potential clichés with stylistic bravura. Of course everything stems from a rock solid script, where the plot points are cunningly engineered. It's such a joy to be surprised by a horror outcome. It's refreshing to see a Horror/Thriller genre film that is quite inventive than the textbook bloodbath/slasher/supernatural/camcorder view movies that are being repeatedly. The resolve in Get Out is truly satisfying. I also thought the choice of actors were quite thoughtful. There's a lot to like, but beyond the deeper themes; the characters aren't moronic and behave behave logically, especially the lead character Chris. Something is amiss, enough to warrant wariness. Anyone in this situation would be unnerved as events play out. Definitely worth a watch.

Aussies got away with that one. They were looking on the back foot in those conditions...

We'll miss Woakes in the rest of the tournament. Was fast becoming one of our indispensable players along with Stokes and Root. Great with ball and bat, it will be hard to replace him. Big call on who will step in now. It will probably be Willey you'd imagine.

300 is pretty much a standard score in ODI's now. England are well capable of knocking them off but it does give Bangladesh runs to play with. Fair play to them, fully justifying their inclusion. I still fancy us as we're pretty confident with the bat but if we give away wickets and go 15-3 or similar, this could be trouble...
