Hockey and handball are way down the scale on big sports, and we’ve won Olympic gold in hockey. Handball is basically basketball for Soggy Baguettes, Basketball incidentally is probably the forth biggest sport in the world in terms of viewership of a World Cup behind Football, cricket and Rugby. Incredible match but felt very very sad for NZ, they didnt deserve to win at all. Congrats to England for fighting it till the last minute and a little bit of luck also helped them but very deserving overall. Im pretty sure majority of the cricket fans are more unhappy about NZ than happy about england, such a cruel match this was. And it's not England's fault that there is lack of quality teams on other sports or some of the countries not playing the other sports. A World Cup is a World Cup, the highest prize. The pinnacle of that sport. It's a notable achievement. It's not like Americans calling domestic competitions World series or World championships. Remember, I am English and born in England but all they have been showing on the news this morning (all channels) is England winning the Cricket World Cup, a little bit of a mention about the Wimbledon Final and hey!! I have just remembered, the Ladies Netball World Cup Finals is being played and England are doing well and thrashed Samoa 90-24 and topping Group D... Really shows the character of the nation. Basketball, Ice hockey, baseball, American football all sports only played by some countries seriously but they don't give a fuck. and here you have India, Pakistan where for some generations field hockey was the first love, but since it didn't had the glamour globally so let's just give up a part of your sporting culture and focus on other sports. You have to remember the size of America which includes Alaska & Hawaii so really they can class some sports as the World Series in America and give them their due they will have a crack at anything, American Grid Iron football and Baseball are more than likely the two biggest sports over there but I would not mind betting if cricket was introduced into America in some format they would have a go at that as it's similar to baseball, the wife always maintains baseball is rounders we played when we were kids. It was a moment, like Aguero winning the PL title for City in like the last second of the season. And to win on boundaries is like winning a World Cup in Football on corners. Pretty ridiculous really. If anything, they should have just said as England won the group game between them, that would be the differential. But you know what? We've been so unlucky across all form's of Sport that when we do get the rub of the green, we should take it. You have to. All the best sides sometimes need a bit of luck to win, it can't be all purely on skill and ability. We deserve to win it to be frank. The journey this team has been on and given we've been spanking teams out the park on a regular basis for the last three years in this format, we deserve to have something to show for it. I cannot remember many big Sporting tournament's where we have come in as favourites and despite the added pressure (And I still don't think we really truly ever reached our very best level in most the games), we still had enough. Feel terrible for NZ, they have won a lot of friends along the way though and were worthy final opponent's. Now to smash the Aussies in the Ashes. Sorry, I would never compare Maradona to Ben Stokes. 1. Maradona intentionally cheated and never apologised. Stokes incident was a complete freak accident and he still apologised for it. 2. To label Stokes a cheat, which is effectively what it is with that comparison, would be an insult when you have Australians caught on camera trying to rough up a ball or the 3 Pakistani players spot-fixing, not to mention the biggest cheat of all, Hanse Cronje. The whole “it’s no way to decide it” is just childish bitching, if you went into a casino bet heavily on black all night and won loads but then lost as it was red, would the croupier leave your chips because “you’ve done well”? Childish bleating it really is. Anyway will this revive English cricket? It’s been suffering for 2-3 years, I personally dislike Strauss so haven’t bothered with them much but I did watch the KO stages of this competition and I do try to follow Ireland.
