US Afghanistan War - Confidential Documents Released

Confidential documents have been released about the war in Afghanistan and how the government lied to the public about it... nothing new there and although a bit long it's a hell of a frightening read...

“If the American people knew the magnitude of this dysfunction . . . 2,400 lives lost,” Lute added, blaming the deaths of U.S. military personnel on bureaucratic breakdowns among Congress, the Pentagon and the State Department. “Who will say this was in vain?”

Since 2001, more than 775,000 U.S. troops have deployed to Afghanistan, many repeatedly. Of those, 2,300 died there and 20,589 were wounded in action, according to Defense Department figures.

I find it amusing how they still casually exclude over 100000 fatalities on the Afghan side over the war - with at least 40000 classified as civilians (and probably many more of them wrongly classified as combatants killed in drone strikes).

Pretty remarkable how long they've been lying to the public about a war that's pretty much unwinnable and has wasted a shitload of their taxpayer's money.

Trump wants to get out of Afghanistan but it's that US needs a face saving, you can't just fight a war for 18 years and in the end just negotiate and come back.

They need a diversion in the region, i bet the recent tensions in the Gulf was an attempt at it.

Death toll since 2001 according to the report

Afghan civilians - 43,000

Afghan security forces - 64,000

Humanitarian aid workers - 3814

Taliban and other fighter insurgents - 67

Journalist and media workers - 2300

US military personnel - 1145

What the actual fuck ? In 18 years they managed to kill just 67 insurgents ???? Just 60 fucking 7 O.o and that many civilians and forces on Afghan side got killed meanwhile losing thousands of their own troops :dam:

“The War is Worth Waging”: Afghanistan’s Vast Reserves of Minerals and Natural Gas

The war on Afghanistan is part of a profit driven agenda: a war of economic conquest and plunder,  “a resource war”.

According to a joint report by the Pentagon, the US Geological Survey (USGS) and USAID, Afghanistan is now said to possess “previously unknown” and untapped mineral reserves, estimated authoritatively to be of the order of one trillion dollars (New York Times, U.S. Identifies Vast Mineral Riches in Afghanistan – NYTimes.com, June 14, 2010, See also BBC, 14 June 2010).

An internal Pentagon memo, for example, states that Afghanistan could become the “Saudi Arabia of lithium,” a key raw material in the manufacture of batteries for laptops and smart phones.

The previously unknown deposits — including huge veins of iron, copper, cobalt, gold and critical industrial metals like lithium — are so big and include so many minerals that are essential to modern industry that Afghanistan could eventually be transformed into one of the most important mining centers in the world, the United States officials believe.
