Mike Ashley had a chance in 2012 when we finished 5th to build on a very solid team and decided to skimp for profits, I would say 2013 was the point of no return for Mike Ashley. In this day and age you can only hope to compete if you get a sugar daddy or a gulf state as an owner or you would be wallowing about in mid table or worse unable to finish in the top 6 for the rest of eternity. You'll probably just pull a City/PSG and have Saudi owned companies sponsor the club at overinflated prices to then point to record revenue at Newcastle. Manchester United and Arsenal for example should have been bottom half maybe even relegated at least once in the last decade, but their floor won't allow it.
