I really like Danny Higginbotham, breaks everything down so well and is amazingly knowledgeable.

Underused in my opinion.

Does he over exaggerate everything that goes on to make it seem like life and death? If not, then that might be why he's underused. Sky and ESPN pundits are the worst for it. People will praise Neville and Carragher to the hills but they love being hyperbolic.

He isn't Hollywood enough that's for certain.

He just talks the game really well, its hard to describe really other than hee goes into heavy detail on how tactics etc..

He's really good.

Danny Murphy is a football dinosaur that doesn't like things if they aren't what they used to be. Ranting about specialist coaches whilst all he does is sit on a sofa every week and talks for about five minutes.

It's not like he has any personality either, so I'm not sure what he actually brings to a broadcast. If he actually said something interesting or insightful, it would be a first.

A lot of it is about who you know and just being nice to the other pundits. Jenas still having a voice is insane.

He’s a massive cunt. I noticed this when he played for us.

Yes, by the same line of thought, why have there been assistant managers, first team coaches & goalkeeping coaches, since at least the 1990's. Certainly during Murphy's playing days.

It did feel a bit odd how dismissive he was of the set piece coach. Perhaps he hasn't really thought of the detail. The guy in question apparently spends hours analyzing for weaknesses & opportunities against opponents. And puts together presentation dossiers. All sounds like Worf or Data giving a presentation for Picard's consideration.

Obviously the head coach or manager still heads it all up in some coherent way. But only sounds to me like easing the pressure of dotting every i & crossing every t from just the 1 man. Like in nearly any other business.

It seems to me like a part of the increasing professionalism in football. Arsene Wenger was probably that next step up from the likes of Brian Clough, Ron Atkinson, or whoever, telling players what to eat & how to train, to achieve better results. This is perhaps moving on from that 1 man handling every detail top to bottom.

I don't like him but when it comes to not letting bias affect your punditry roy keane is very good at that. He always says good things about liverpool and man city.

It's quite funny that some people are saying that they should get the best pundits and they shouldn't get a black or female pundit just because it is the PC thing to do. Those three were terrible. Really bad. Phil Thompson was voted the worst pundit in the country on multiple occasions. You could never say those 3 were the best. The standard of soccer Saturday has actually massively increased since they have gone

Neville is getting progressively worse, particularly when it comes to United. He ties himself in knots, contradicts himself and Carragher comes across as the one with United's best interests at heart. Carragher has overtaken him as a pundit now.

The reason Van Gaal and Mourinho never worked is that they were both in the winter of the careers in a game that had either passed or was passing them by and even they won something when there. It would obviously be different if United got a Conte, Pochettino or a manager like that in their prime.

Carragher, the Liverpool fan, makes sense about United while Neville blusters and contradicts himself. Weird.

The problem with Sky is they’re very clickbaity these days. When Neville and Carragher first came in they were a breathe of fresh air as they provided a tactical knowledge and ability to convey that knowledge that did not exist with the likes of Souness and Redknapp.

Sky have now built their Premier League brand around those two and are playing on their United/Liverpool rivalry for online views and relevancy. Look at their debate programme, some of the debates they’ve had are just a shambles you’d expect to hear down the pub, some episodes are good but some don’t seem to meet any sort of quality control criteria.

Emma Hayes was another breathe of fresh air during the Euro’s, provided a tactical knowledge that others didn’t (not sure if she was on Sky though). Looked beyond measures of how hard someone appears to be trying and tried to understand what was actually happening on a pitch. Put it this way, she analyses the game like a top manager and others analyse it like Tim “shooting from the hips” Sherwood.

The difference is massive when you compare coverage of La Liga TV to Sky and at times ITV/BBC. La Liga TV’s entire coverage is aimed at someone who even if they don’t have much of an intelligent understanding of football, they can still appreciate it. Sky is just slowly creeping towards being an expensive TalkSport.

Neville acting like he’s a club spokesperson and him not wanting to advocate for his mate getting sacked on TV are stopping him from being objective. Same thing with Rio Ferdinand tbh.

When Ben Foster retires from playing, I think he'll end up as a pundit and I think he'll be quite good

I would think so too, but i think theres an overwhelming push back against good punditry on the big channels. A lot of freedoms are lost when you sign your name away for sky and the like, and that's why we see so many who start well, who are dragged into caricatures and the same groupthink opinions.

Liam Rosenior always speaks sense to me, Neville and Carra are like May and Clarkson it’s funny but they actually waffle a lot of shit if you stand back and look at it.

Also Simon Jordan not in terms of the  pitch but business finance side of the game he’s on the money, yesterday re Harry Kane he’s bang on. I have been told Kane’s brother within the game is a laughing stock

Simon Jordan is always good value whether you agree or not (and I do a good 80% of the time with him). Helps that he's with a cretin in Jim White.

Gary Neville's credability has nosedived in the last year for me. Think Carragher is clear.
