Thirteen out of 36 Bundesliga clubs face insolvency should club football not resume in Germany by May. Out of those clubs, 12 have already paid their bills using the latest installment of the television contract. Those numbers were presented in a teleconference call held by the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) on Tuesday.

The situation is especially critical in Bundesliga 2. Without football, seven clubs will face insolvency by the end of May. Two more clubs are impacted by the end of June should they not receive television money.

In the first division, one club only has enough funds until the end of May. Without football, three more clubs would have to start insolvency procedures by the end of June. Even with part-time work by employees, insolvency procedures are unavoidable.

German football is a major industry, and insolvencies would have a major impact on the economy. About 56,000 people in Germany are employed working directly or indirectly with the Bundesliga.

On Tuesday, the league announced that they had changed licensing proceedings. Clubs having to declare insolvency will not be deducted points. In the case of clubs going bankrupt, they will be deducted three rather than the usual nine points.
