A 20-year-old man has died, a woman has been raped and three people have been stabbed during two illegal "quarantine raves" that attracted 6,000 people.

Thousands flocked to Daisy Nook Country Park and Carrington in Greater Manchester late on Saturday.

The man at the country park died of a suspected drug overdose and the stabbings and the attack on an 18-year-old woman took place in Carrington.

Police said the illegal raves have had tragic consequences.

Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes condemned them as a clear breach of coronavirus legislation, adding officers "were met with violence, resulting in items being thrown and a police car being vandalised".

Police said about 4,000 people were at the Daisy Nook rave in Failsworth, Oldham, where there were no reported crimes.

There were, however, three separate stabbings at the Carrington site - one of which left an 18-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

Police were able to find the man and give him first aid before paramedics arrived.

Two other men, aged 25 and 26, were hurt in separate stabbings and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

"We are also investigating the rape of an 18-year-old woman... and we have specialist officers supporting her and her family," police said.

The region's deputy mayor for policing and crime, Bev Hughes, said the events industry had agreed "to blacklist any supplier who is involved with illegal raves".

She said "those reckless individuals" have "put a needless demand on vital police time," and "themselves and their communities in real danger".

But she praised communities helping clean up, saying: "We have seen the real Greater Manchester this morning."

ACC Sykes responded to suggestions police had been slow to act or allowed the events to go ahead in a lengthy statement on the force's website.

Greater Manchester Police had seen huge demand including a 60% surge in emergency calls from 17:00 BST on Saturday to 04:00 on Sunday, he said.

He said said the gatherings were carefully monitored but "we needed to balance the present public health emergency and our overall demand with ongoing incidents" during the pandemic.

Why does the opening paragraph say 6000 people then further down it mentions the Police said 4000 people.

Was it like supporter exaggeration over a cup final? 20,000 inside the stadium and another 4 million made the journey hoping for tickets and to take in the atmosphere in the 3 bars around the ground

It was 6000 people overall at two separate sites. 4000 at Failsworth, 2000 at Carrington.

I know weddings are a big thing in India but guess what, COVID DOESN'T GIVE A FUCK.

More than 100 test positive after India wedding

Some 111 guests tested positive for Covid-19 after a wedding in India's northern Bihar state. The groom also died a day after the wedding on 16 June, NDTV reported. However, it's not clear if he had the virus as he was not tested.

More than 350 people attended the wedding on 15 June and the groom drove approximately 1,095km (680 miles) for the event.

Authorities have been contact tracing and isolating those who attended the wedding for the past week, local media reported.

Officials have also opened an investigation into why more than 50 people attended - the maximum number of guests allowed at a wedding under the new rules in light of the virus.

Bihar has confirmed more than 9,500 cases and 60 deaths so far.

What a sad event that turned out to be, with the groom dying a day after the wedding. People just have to remember that COVID-19 is still very much with us, despite the loosening of lockdown restrictions.

Four university students have been fined £10,000 each after telling police who broke up their house party they were "spoiling their fun".

Officers on patrol spotted a party in Lenton, Nottingham, on Tuesday night but were told everyone had left.

But inside they found more than 30 people hiding and, when challenged, organisers complained they should be having the "time of their lives".

Nottingham Trent University said the third-year students had been suspended.

Mixing of households or support bubbles indoors has been banned since Nottingham went into tier two restrictions on 14 October.

Well done. Daft bitch.

It's gotten to the point where you just laugh. Teachers are supposed to set examples in these situations.

On another note: You've got "666" likes on here. I always knew you were evil.

Amongst all the footballers being tits, there's these kind of people described in this tweet.

Gotta be pretty stupid to go out and about, or to work, when you're still waiting for your test result.

Shows what a load of bastards some people are just to make a quick buck and try to rip people off, especially the elderly, I received this the other day as a text message and I thought it looked dodgy so I reported it...

So I sent the message onto the below to see if it was genuine or not...

True enough, it was a fucking scam, I hope they get the bastards and lock them up as I am sure there must have been a few that fell for it and gave personal details (Bank) to the bastards, I got a reply from the HMRC...

Yeah I've had a few of those myself, one about a tax return as well. But they'd never send you one about those.

Also receive many from "Banks" although every bank but the one I actually use.

They also send me ones about PayPal, but to the wrong email address xD

The issue with the bank one is due to Covid some of them are actually ringing customers up cold call them . Their poor fraud teams must be innundated with people checking these are genuine further hampering the profit margins on any upselling.

Anyway there's been a few of these recently mainly for unnecessary drives.

I had a phone call from "HMRC" saying I'd commited fraud. It was an automated message and told me to press one. I should have pressed it just to see what they said.

I honestly wish I did defraud this government. I'd be proud of it. They've left me skint.

You realise they're just spam calls and probably nothing to do with the government at all, right?

I know they are. It had nothing to do with HMRC, hence why I put HMRC in brackets. I have spam of all kinds on a weekly basis.

But I'm just saying, I wish I had committed fraud with the amount I'm down because of this government.

If you stick on a hi Vis vest on in this snobby country, you're treat like scum, so you may aswell become just that.

There's been a huge spike in scammers over here as well since we went back into lockdown. There's a lot of people using the vaccine as an opportunity to scam people in vulnerable age groups and categories. If anyone wasn't aware or has elderly relatives who aren't aware then it might be an idea to bring this up. People ringing up saying I'm calling about booking you in for a vaccination, I'll need your personal details. These people are the absolute scum of the earth.

They are the worst. Targeting the elderly for their savings. I genuinely don't know how you could sleep.

It is easy to fall for them if not aware also. Even we could. I had to think about the first one regarding grants as there was a chance I could have been contacted about that, even if a low chance as I always seem to lose out unfortunately.
