When they were first bought out, all went well with all due respects and around that period, things weren't exactly going great for them as they were in threat of relegation and would have probably never returned. They were able to attract a high class of players which took them all the way to the quarters of the Champions league, very unlucky not to progress to the semi-finals at that. Julio Baptista is a name that stands out. Cazorla, Van Nistelrooy, Joaquin, Saviola at some point too. Kameni as well who was quality in goal. I'm probably missing a few. Just goes to show though you can have star names and high-profile players but if you don't plan for the future when it all goes tits up then it's bound to end in misery. Nacho Monreal was also good for them and Demichelis. But we obviously can't forget the young Isco either. He was class for them in his 2 seasons. Cazorla, Joaquin and Isco would be players that any team would have taken around that time, but Cazorla did leave after a year and they went on to nearly reach the semis of the Champions league, which they would have done so if VAR existed back then in their game against Dortmund. Pellegrini as manager as well. It's actually a shame he ever left La Liga as he was perfect for Spanish football in turning a team into a competitive force. What he did at Malaga and especially Villarreal, was brilliant. Spanish football was suited to him and he should have managed Sevilla at one point, since they are a side who have been winning trophies for 15 years quite regularly with their haul of Europa leagues(and UEFA cup before the name change), Copas del rey and European Super cups, etc. He could have been the man to take them to that next step around the time they were flirting with a title challenge. I mainly remember his time at Villarreal mainly for that Arsenal match in the CL semi-final and also knocking out Everton in CL (sorry @RandoEFC) They had Forlan there as well and he was superb. Just reading up about them at their peak and seems they sign Cazorla for €20 million from Villarreal and then sold him to Arsenal the next summer for about half of that.
