Technically they're not officially promoted either :P

Ah, you are right.

With their celebrations I just naturally assumed it was done and dusted.

So, they have to lose every match, and lose the 18 GD they have over Stuttgart in 3rd.

Do they have anything to do with Armenia the country ?

Nope

Arminia's name derives from the Cheruscan chieftain Arminius, who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

Congrats to Arminia Bielefeld, as they return to the Bundesliga for the first time since they were relegated in 2009. They've only lost twice all season with only three matches remaining, that's quite an impressive achievement. Uwe Neuhaus's team are a hard working outfit and they have been very consistent in terms of their performances.

It's also a bit ironic as Arminia Bielefeld finish top of the 2. Bundesliga, their southern neighbours just down the road in Paderborn, have finished bottom of the Bundesliga.xD

It's not very uncommon for wars in Europe.

Actually Azeem is correct. the dumb romans were drawn into battle by Arminius, pretending to be ally to the romans. He leads them into the forest at the beginning of winter, they break combat formation due to rain and shit weather, get ambushed, get rekt. Bows don't work in the wet because the strings loose slack. The romans only entered the forest because they thought it would be empty. They lost 3 legions.

Forests are still pretty common historical battlegrounds in Europe?

Not really, and never by consent of both armies. You can't have cavalry in forests, nor archers nor formations. So ambushes by the less civilized are about the only time it pops up.

I'm sure there have been plenty of battles next to forests or within a few miles of one however. But fighting in among the trees is rare.

Gonna ask @CaaC (John) for an eyewitness account.

Arminius was captured as a child by the Romans and spent most of his life learning everything he could about them and was trusted by Varus because he was helping them subdue all the Germanic tribes and all the time he was plotting against them,  Normally they would have gone round the forest because it was rumoured that the Legions had a fear of being in there and it was not the route they had originally planned and the terrain was almost impassable at points even being on foot the formations just became a mish mash of bodies spread out and the supply wagons were miles behind so the men got split up all over the place, The Germans used this to pick them off one by one until all 3 of the legions were totally destroyed...  One of the worst defeats the Romans ever suffered, Got to hand it to Arminius though for patience and restraint over all them years... victory must have been sweet

Forest fighting as such is normally reserved for ambushes etc because as DDW already mentioned getting cavalry and formations/archers to work effectively is almost a non starter... More of a stay low out of sight last minute surprise type situation...

Also I don't have a clue what @CaaC (John) is talking about....

Ask Caac John about the times I used to get the kids to collect branches and pretend to be Dunsinane - not exactly a battle in a forest, but a well-known ploy to upset even the best generals - and sometimes even their mad women!
