It must have been sudden as he last tweeted only eight hours ago.

I'll remember him best for the soundtrack to "Casino Royale", the Bond movie that re-booted the franchise to what it is now.

What did he tweet?

Something about being back in Detroit I think. Sounded as if he was about to or had just had played a gig there, nothing that hinted at an illness or his inevitable death.

Wouldn't be surprised if its something sudden (I.e. - Cardiac arrest).

It says on the wiki page that he died after a show in Detroit

RIP 😯

Casino Royale... Fuckin amazing song and great vocal performance.

Cornell was maybe one of the greatest ever voices in rock. He had it all and pretty much the perfect voice for the Soundgarden/Audioslave sound.

Way too young. Great musician and legendary voice. RIP.

Eddie Vedder now carries the Grunge torch by himself. All of this must be very bizarre for him. Basically the weight of a whole generation on his back.

Sounds sketchy to me. His wife told the neighbor to check on him? Strange

RIP

Maybe he sent something to her or sounded suspicious on the phone. Who knows.

heard this on my way to work this morning, sad days. Audioslave is still my favourite super band ive watched their live in cuba dvd too many times to count. first two albums are pure gold.

Sounds to me like it could be a Heath Ledger type thing, mix pills and booze but its all speculation at this point. RIP

My favourite

Very sad. R.I.P.

The other side of me can't help but feel it's also incredibly selfish that he leaves behind 2 kids under the age of 12, not to mention his wife who has to pick up the pieces. Why?

I just can never understand why someone honestly get's to a point they feel like there is no way out. I guess you can never know.

I think at least some of the people who commit or try to commit suicide genuinely think that it is the ultimate way to end the pain for themselves AND for people associated with them; that they are a burden on others; that they are worthless and their family/friends/the world would be better off without them. It's tragic. I do understand why some might see it as a selfish act, and it's true in a way, but I can't even fathom how broken, despaired and hopeless should a person feel throughout the years to consider suicide, so I don't think anyone can judge without having lived through it.

I feel for Chris' family, friends and the person who found him; it's a horrible experience.

Another mental disorder under the radar, so sad.

not to play devils advocate, but we don't know whether he was seeking help or not and if so, for how long. and I don't want to be a cynic either but maybe the help he had wasn't enough.

hopefully it didn't go under the radar though :(. It's always sad when someone gets to this point in their life where they have to end it and even more sad when there's a family with young children involved.

You never know, something could have instigated this. It's a longshot but maybe it was something like 'terminal cancer' that triggered this suicide. He may have not wanted his family to see him waste away into nothing.

Autopsy says he hung himself. But he was found on the floor... maybe the rope broke before he was found as he was found dead on the spot.

RIP, a fantastic singer. Now only Eddie Vedder is the last frontman of the big grunge bands standing.
