How the draw will work
The UEFA administration formed groups for the draw to avoid clubs without an approved stadium being drawn against each other, in accordance with the principles set by the Club Competitions Committee.

For each group, two pots are prepared; one for the seeded teams and the other for the unseeded teams.

For each group, the balls containing the names of the seeded teams will be placed in one bowl and the balls containing the names of the unseeded teams will be put into another bowl. One ball will be taken from each bowl and placed in a large empty bowl in the middle, where they will be shuffled.

The club drawn first plays the single leg of the tie at home if no fixture reversals apply.

The same procedure is carried out with the remaining balls to complete all the pairings of the first group and then repeated to determine the pairings for the remaining groups.

What happens next?
Ties take place on 18 or 19 August, with extra time and a penalty shoot-out if required. Winners advance to the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round; all losing sides progress to the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round.

Draw for the First Qualifying round takes place at 11am GMT today.

  • 2 weeks later...

Irish champions Dundalk lost to Slovenian champions Celje last night in Hungary, and have 'parted company' with their manager this morning. Quite a brutal world.

The draw is almost set for next week, with the only tie remaining being played tonight.

Celtic losing to Ferencvaros early on...

And no Eduoard in the team.

Has Ajeti and Klimala, their other strikers on the bench, and have Ryan Christie playing as a striker... Thoroughly odd team selection here.

DId you see that AZ scored 3 goals after 90 minutes to come back from 1-0 and beat Plzen? xD

It went to extra time mate xD

AZ scored in 5th minute of stoppage time to take it to ET.

Ah, soccerway didn't say as much, just that they scored all the goals in ET. haha, I suppose that makes more sense.

He's injured. But doesn't mean he's not leaving... Especially if it finishes this way.

If Celtic lose do they drop in to Europa League or is that it for them in Europe this season?

Think every team in Champions League qualifying just drops into the Europa League qualifiers if they get knocked out.

Two years in a row that Celtic have fallen apart at home in the Champions League.

£8 million worth of strikers on the bench, and Lennon doesn't make a sub until the 78th minute.

Scott Brown is clearly done at this level and offered them nothing in attack and was too slow to deal with their counter attacks. And still... Is on for the entire match.

As for their new £5 million goalkeeper, their second goal isn't a great look for him.

I'm guessing it does also count, but as another 'shock', Legia Warsaw have been knocked out to Cypriots Omonia and Ludogorets lose to Midtjylland.

Poland are 29th in the UEFA coefficient, Cyprus are 16th. Polish clubs have a horrific record in European competitions.
