Sources in the White House have said he only condemned the rioters because he was told he might face legal issues if he didn't disassociate from what happened given his speech prior to the siege of the house of US government.

Yep 100% transparent. We all saw how he reacted in the moment with his video address bookended with the same baseless bullshit that started all of it. Saying we love you go home but we love you, voter fraud stolen election, fuck hes infuriating. We know how he really feels and this is completely out of character for that exact reason.

He even opened this "concession speech" with more bullshit about how he called in the national guard xD

My dad had a long rant last night about trump. My dad is 63, stubborn and liked trump. However since his election fraud accusations he has turned against him and said I was right all along. There is hope people there is hope

Moments like this that should be spoken about more!

Worth a quick glimpse of this short thread.  A cop potentially saves a life/lives of Senators, directing rioters away from the Senate Chamber after seeing it was initially unguarded :congrats:

All these social media sites, the PGA, whoever else, banning Trump is pure PR and nothing more, they’ve had 4 years to do this, 4 years and plenty of good reasons to.

To be fair if you banned him while President there would be consequences for your business. That's what he is like. He would use his powers for revenge, the man child that he is.

Has the new legislative session started? Important because, assuming impeachment passes the house, he still has to be convincted in the Senate by two-thirds for it to mean anything.

No. It starts on Jan 19th unless McConnell agrees otherwise.

I've heard it said there is no chance of senate conviction at present, and that the house would impeach but wait for Biden's first 100 days in office to send the articles to the senate. This will give significantly higher chance of conviction, removing him from being able to run in 2024 and pension and travel allowance, and once Biden's people are running the defence department

And who is that?

It’s pretty self explanatory really? It’s easy to talk up against Trump from Twitter if you’ve got nothing to lose. Why would you risk losing your business and putting your family in danger by going up against a sociopath in charge of the most dangerous nation in the world?

Sorry mate sounded like a dig against me for a second 😅

No I appreciate what you’re saying in terms of looking after families and whatever else, but all that’s happening at the moment is just a flag waving exercise to show everyone who the “good guys” are

Has there ever been a worse President?

Maybe George W Bush - started the Iraq War because of Al Qaeda... when the only connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda is they both have an "a" and a "q", which then led to the rise of ISIS and further escalated tensions in probably the most tense region in the fucking world.

In terms of actions with the most widespread immediate negative consequences, GWB is probably the American president in our lifetime with the claim to "most destructive."

But Trump's been destructive to the idea of American democracy, as shown by his mob's attack on American democracy last week. He's radicalised shitloads of Americans and probably forever changed American politics to where extreme far right ideas are normal and socially acceptable. And he's damaged America's soft-power and ability to act through diplomacy by cozying up with autocrats while damaging America's ties with allies like the UK and EU.
