Liverpool fans, learn from this. There will be never be more proof of what I’ve been saying for months of not years. Manchester club does it ‘glad to see them taking it seriously’ , Liverpool ‘arrogant scum’ . This is a country who resents you even existing never mind winning. Evertonians should take heed, if you get a success then you’ll find the same. It is deeper than football, sadly.

It's not Liverpools decision to postpone a game? Klopp and Milner both said after the match that this game shouldn't have gone ahead... but hey, you carry on talking about something you know nothing about.

I never said it was Liverpool’s decision to play the game.
I said FA

i am pointing out that Liverpool fans would not be happy if they had to play a game with 10 players out due to COVID.  That’s all.
Liverpool have been complaining about the time of games  and injuries  this whole season

The most salient point is why did Manchester City get to cancel a game within 3 hours of kick off? This is a scandal that should rock English football but nobody is arsed. Manchester Ciry should have played  that game

That bald nobhead defends mendy for partying  but not seen one negative article about it. Manchester clubs are protected

I don't know what you're actually referring to now. Genuinely. You're speaking as if your comment falls in the middle of pages and pages of anti-Liverpool bile. The only person in this thread remotely proving your point is a German and the only one really backing you up doesn't know how to use capital letters.

We both agree that the rest of the country looks down their nose at Scousers, and that Tories and the Murdochian media are terrified of a city that actually has a socialist identity that they know they can never shake so that they have to keep them "in their place". There's a number of people on here that deny it. I'm not a scouser, I don't think you are either, but we both get it. I'm not one of the naysayers, but you have plenty of opportunity to point out actual evidence of it but when you go into any thread where people are having a two-sided debate about Liverpool Football Club and make out that the only possible reason for the other side of the argument existing is because of the anti-scouse Illuminati living in the basement of BBC Manchester, you become the boy who cries wolf and nobody will take you seriously when you genuinely do have a point. And in my opinion you have a point pretty often, so I'm not just "one of them" when I can't see where you're coming from.

Fair points, well made.

We will see how the thread develops when other clubs play.

Behave? He couldn't go a week without mentioning it at one point. And if your subs are so bad then why does he want licence to use more of them? If fatigue/welfare is bad enough to make it into such a big issue then why were Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Salah, Mane, Firmino still playing pretty much every game? And your answer can't be "because we don't have anyone else" at the same time as defending Klopp for asking for more substitutes that you're saying aren't good enough for him to use in the first place.

I know there's a lot of factors at play and this isn't a black/white right/wrong debate but at the heart of this, Klopp and Guardiola are at least partially hypocritical for putting public pressure on other teams to vote in favour of having five substitutes and then rocking up to a Premier League game the next day and using 0 or 1 substitutes or playing a full strength side in a Champions League dead rubber or straightforward cup tie.

You might ultimately be right with the more intimate knowledge of your club and the squad but when the manager has been so outspoken on this issue and then his actions appear on face value go contradict his strong public opinions you can only expect fans of other teams to point it out.

Everton have had several players that have been to and fro between the first team's bench and the under 23s so you can definitely mix squads a bit.

You might have a point though, perhaps at some clubs the under 23s and first team are in the same bubble and at other teams they are in separate bubbles like Aston Villa seem to be. It depends on whether there are full Premier League guidelines or whether some scope is left within that for clubs to choose what suits their situation.

The Champions League might be a different issue again. I'm not up to date on the squad registration rules for Europe as I haven't played Football Manager properly since 2017.

I'm not sure on the point about substitutes though. Making three substitutes too early has always carried a risk of leaving you with ten men late in the game. The risk of injury might be a bit more this season but the risk has always been there. I'm not actually diametrically opposed to having 5 substitutes this season but I will stand by the hypocrisy shout. You don't offset a higher risk of injury by leaving more of your most valuable players on the pitch for longer. No matter how anyone wants to spin that, at its core it's nonsensical.

Not a problem with you pointing it out (the "behave" was a response to the idea of bringing on either of those two) but it has to be in context. There are only so many players you can bring on with the game in the balance, and there have genuinely been times when none of them have been available off the bench. So my answer is "because we don't (or didn't) have anybody else". There's nothing hypocritical about it because having 5 subs allows you to bring off nearly half your team when you're up by 3 or 4 and protect them. It's also possible we would never have been in the position where we didn't have anybody else if we'd been allowed to make more subs from the beginning, but that's hypothetical.

At the end of the day, a manager's job is to win matches and there are obviously going to be times when making all 3 subs isn't your best option. Why should a manager have to jeopardise his chances of winning just to prove to opposing fans that he really does want 5 subs?

By the way, I was wrong and there haven't been any games where we've made 1 sub. We made 2 against Southampton and City. Also, the "full strength team" we played in the dead rubber included all of Jota, Origi, Minamino,  Kostas Tsimikas, Leighton Clarkson and Caoimhin Kelleher.

As a German football fan: there's nothing more hypocrite than a Bayern fan telling to others to cry them a river.

May I remind you the many times Uli Hoeneß said Ref's should specifically protect Bayern players more, or would you prefer me to refer to that press conference , when Hoeneß and Rummenigge quoted the German constitution?

IF you want neither of that , can come up with many other instances that show as Bayern you shouldn't blame others to be whiny, just shut it for your own sake.

Injury is one thing. COVID is another. A number of games and competitions have been postponed already. Why didn’t this game also be postponed? 10 players of a team tested positive.
Plus perhaps the rest of villa is also infected but have not shown symptoms yet and by playing this game may have now infected Liverpool A squad players.
but hey at least ur team got to win against 18yo

Dont know the reason why FA allowed the game to go on.

Well you are right about one thing, COVID and injuries are different. You can certainly go a long way to minimizing the chances of getting COVID by following guidelines re mixing socially, you don't really have much control over whether some talentless yard dog is going to end your season not long after it has just started.

Anyway getting back to whether the FA should have allowed the game to be played? Under normal circumstances they would have postponed the match, its not that simple when it seems every day there is a new outbreak.

I feel sorry for the kids at Villa, they didn't embarrass themselves, Liverpool can certainly understand after having to field a similarly inexperienced team, ironically again at Villa due to World Club Championship commitments.

I'm gonna watch the derby game. Really interested to see how their youth team do. It's an interesting tie because despite being the team in the higher division chorley may actually be the favourites because of the team derby have had to sellect

Can't wait to get slapped today. Think we have Joe Bennett as a centre back due to injuries and Benkovic being recalled (though not sure if he would have been allowed to play anyway).

3-0 Forest

1-0 to Forest after 3 minutes. It's going to be a long game.

Awful, turgid performance from us, slightly better in extra time to win it. Not many that can take credit away for their performances there though, we could have had no complaints if we'd lost in 90 minutes. Still, rather be in the hat than not for the next round.
