Southampton vs Shrewsbury may be postponed due to COVID in Shrewsbury squad

Quote

Saturday's FA Cup third round tie between Southampton and Shrewsbury is almost certain not to go ahead after a significant number of Shrews players and staff tested positive for coronavirus, BBC Shropshire reports.

Shrewsbury's League One derby against Crewe on New Year's Day was called off because of the outbreak.

Those affected at the Shropshire club are self-isolating.

All teams in the FA Cup are being tested 72 hours before their fixtures.

Apparently we’re going to be playing their kids.

How the turn tables

Klopp won't be happy. He'll have been banking on being out of the cup given when the fourth and fifth round ties fall. Maybe he'll play the under 16s now or something:ph34r: xD

Yes, the turn tables!

It's ironic really after what happened last season.

Liverpool to win to nil is evens on SkyBet! Although if Klopp plays the kids too maybe Villa would still score...

In all seriousness, I think it will be a mixture of kids and players like Minamino and Origi. When I say kids, I mean the two Williams', Kelleher etc. I'd imagine Rhys Williams and Phillips will be the CBs. He won't be risking Fabinho.

Marine don't even have full time professional players !?

The beauty of the FA Cup.

Shame there's no fans to see such a game.

It's a crazy situation for Marine in more ways than one. Their players will be furloughed on Monday if they don't beat Spurs. And they've struggled to find players due to their season being postponed and the teams they've loaned players from being reluctant as it's a 'one off' game against Spurs and then their players won't play until the season restarts again.

I think it should be any Premier League's club duty to donate their half of the Cup money to whichever EFL club or non league side they play this weekend.

It would be a nice gesture and show a bit of solidarity in tough times.

Crawley would have had a full house in this weekend for our game, it's a BBC pick, lots of eyes on Bielsa going there, they would have had a lovely money spinner but unfortunately they have been robbed of that.

I hope we forfeit any money we receive to give to them, least we should be doing to be fair and I hope others follow suit.

I absolutely agree. The teams would usually share gate receipts so it makes sense to spread the wealth in terms of revenues gained from televised games and prize money etc.

Interesting line up, not what I expected at all actually.

More surprised at Klopp's continuous moaning this season about lack of rest for players, and then picking Mane and Salah against Villa kids.

I guess he feels like he wants to use this game to get the confidence back up.

Not what I expected either. We don't play United until the Sunday next week though. It's always been about the recovery time between games for him. Playing them into confidence could also be a reason. Should we get through here, his line up will be more interesting for the 4th round match, given it falls a few days before we play Tottenham away.

I suppose the real reason for this line up is that he's more worried about Villa's U23s then he was about Everton's first team at the same stage last season:ph34r:
