Road to Euro 2020 The Czech Republic’s qualifying was a mixed set of performances, with an impressive win over England and poor displays against Kosovo and Bulgaria. What to Expect Jaroslav Silhavy’s side managed five wins with eleven different goal scorers in their eight qualifying matches, highlighting their offensive diversity and strength in finishing. Possible Lineup The Czech’s stick to a 4-2-3-1 formation, allowing their single striker to be supported by three attacking midfielders whilst covering their defence with two central players. Thomas Vaclik is likely to remain first choice in goal ahead of Jiri Pavlenka. Tomas Kalas and Ondrej Celutska appear to the first choice centre-back partnership ahead of Jakub Brabec and Ondrej Kudela. Vladimir Coufal's position looks assured at right back whilst we expect Jan Boril to start ahead of Ales Mateju at left back. Alex Kral missed the most recent World Cup qualifiers but we expect him to return to the starting line up alongside Tomas Soucek in midfield. Vladimir Darida is most likely to start just behind Patrik Schick who is expected to play the lone striker role. Lukas Masopust and Jakub Jankto are the players we expect to be starting out wide as Lukas Provod has been ruled out with a knee injury. Key Player Tall, handsome and talented, Patrik Schick is Czech football’s poster boy. He hasnt lived up to his potential as of yet but he has emerged as a regular starter as a lone forward for the Czech Republic. He scored four goals in qualifying to cement himself as Silhavy’s main danger man and will most likely to be the decisive factor in whether Czech Republic advance to the knockout stages. Prediction Czech Republic are arguably the weakest side in Group D. However, their method of allowing their opponents possession and then hitting on the counter-attack could be an effective tactic. They're going up against England and Croatia who prefer possession based football which may be of benefit to the Czech Republic.
