Didn’t know what to expect when they put these out on streaming services but the content is good.

Finished Falcon and The Winter Soldier in about a week, just binged the opening 3 episodes of Loki and now trying to watch WandaVision as I couldn’t get my head around it first time round.

Loki is pretty sick, love the introduction of Owen Wilson into the Marvel Universe and how Loki interacts with the MultiVerse.

I'm pretty sure you know what it is.

You're an intelligent lad.

I haven't watched them. I imagine my take on it would be a little bit of "it's Hollywood, what do you expect" and a little bit of "okay, that really did feel like they've forced in a pro-social justice scene where it doesn't really fit to score brownie points". I'm not looking for an argument, it's just that I know you're a sensible person. Most people who complain about wokeness are usually the types that call everyone snowflakes whilst getting offended by vegan sausage rolls and and gender-neutral toilets, but I know that's not you, so I have a genuine interest in your perspective. I just find 'woke' to be a misused word and don't understand at what point it got turned into an insult/negative thing in general.

First of all, the dignity of people is the same for everyone and everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

That said, I don't need in every spectrum of society, to be constantly bombed with the part I highlighted in bold. It's in every movie, tv series, commercials, program, 24/7, non-stop. And it's just plain tiresome.

I really miss watching something, anything, that doesn't feel forced to include the nonsense we are currently living.

So, if I can avoid a bit of that by not watching pointless spin-offs, of something that has been explored to exhaustion (comic book films), I'll do that.

Shame the majority don't seem to think like I do.

Is it a shame? Maybe people don’t see what you see and just enjoy the film or TV series without over thinking it like you have.

I haven’t watched most Marvel spin offs, but I might do. And to those that have, and if you enjoyed them. Good on you.

I thought WandaVision was brilliant and based on what happened in the last episode the story will contribute to future movies.

I began watching Loki but I didn't the feeling I was being gripped by every episode so I'll binge watch them all once they're up.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

  • The title was changed to Marvel Film & TV

Just finished WandaVision last week, really didn't like the first two episodes but they make complete sense within the storyline. Overall it ended up being quality and a great ending. Finished Loki as well and really loved it, like the character progression and again Owen Wilson in it is just great.

Hawkeye due to come out in November and we're likely to see a certain someone's Russian sister in it, can't wait.

Got through both Flacon & Winter Soldier and Loki, felt pretty meh'd by both series but my opinion is no doubt warped by the fact I've seen every film in the span of less than six months. It seemed like series that were setting up for bigger things which they could have told as part of a film. I understand they've got to milk this cow for as much as they can though.

Just watched Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, I think it’s difficult for Marvel films to find originality after giving us everything from Iron Man to Endgame, but I really liked this film.

The characters and actors were compelling, how they interlinked with each other and their motivations it felt like it went beyond a lot of the original films motivation of “normal guy learns how to be a superhero” and created a film where even the villains had a redeemable side to them. Like Black Panther and Guardians in that respect.

I thought Loki was very good. Really well done, tbh.

Honestly, other than the end of the last Endgame film at the second half of the Falcon & Winter Soldier show were the only times I felt like the Marvel shite really pushed "wokeness" like @ASFmentions - but it makes imo these "woke" references might be forced... but I don't think they're unsurpising.

Tbh, wasn't Endgame out around the time that #MeToo stuff was taking over Hollywood? And tbh you don't get much more Hollywood than one of the many studios owned by Disney. Whereas the Captain America spinoff shit spins out of Captain America - which, even as a comic book, has always been pretty thinly veiled social commentary of America's foreign and domestic policy (same with Iron Man, tbh, with Tony Stark's heavy involvement in the US's military industry complex).

So tbh, I'm not too surprised that a big Hollywood movie took cues from real life about what was going on in Hollywood... or that a TV show based off characters that originate from the backstory of a Marvel comic that's always contained elements of social commentary.

But back to the Marvel shite generally. I enjoy them more than I thought I ever would, because I didn't really give too many shits about the most (if not all) Marvel characters. But the MCU films and shows are pretty good in terms of being mindless super hero bullshit meant for mass consumption. They're entertaining at least, which is more than we can say about most recent DC attempts at hitting the big screen.

Marvel cinematic universe is very literally based around social justice, superheros, good and bad etc, not sure how people can get annoyed that a series based on the concept of good and bad has suddenly become more "woke". Marvel films as a whole can be cringey and there were definitely some forced moments you see and close your eyes at, but that's less about the message and more about a genre of American culture that has zero understanding of subtlety. One thing I will say though, away from the irony of Disney being a world leader in capitalism whilst also trying to deliver social commentary, was the scene at the end of Endgame where all the female characters banded round Captain Marvel was sick as fuck. It was clearly a forced move but more so in that Marvel have for a long time ignored stories centring around characters that aren't white or male and most, if not all, of the women in that scene will go onto have much bigger roles within the MCU than they already do.

I did find watching Falcon and Winter Soldier that the socialist bad guys routine seemed a bit forced and very cringey...but again, Marvel films are drenched in cringe moments so it's not something that will get me worked up.

On a side note, glad you enjoyed Loki. I loved it personally, great casting, look forward to the next series.

Got Disney+ recently.

Black Widow - meh, struggled to pay attention, didn't enjoy.

Eternals - not the worst film but a bit of an odd fit within the MCU.

Loki - mediocre storyline and supporting cast carried by strong cast in leading roles.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - actually quite liked it.

Going to watch WandaVision next, not sure what Moon Knight is all about but I'll probably give it a watch.

After watching the new Dr. Strange I get the feeling that this entire MCU phase is about magic and trying to build a new hero that is going to be the champion when they drop some other volume ending event. Can't wait to see what happens in Thor and then FF4.
