Pioli favourite for Viola hot-seat?

It is reported that Stefano Pioli is the favourite to replace Paulo Sousa as Coach of Fiorentina.

The Inter boss appears unlikely to be offered the opportunity to continue at San Siro beyond the end of the season, having replaced the sacked Frank De Boer earlier in the campaign.

Although the former Lazio tactician initially triggered a revival that put the Nerazzurri in the race for Champions League qualification, results have tailed off badly in the last couple of months.

As such, Pioli's departure appears a formality but La Nazione reports that he is a man in demand elsewhere.

Fiorentina, who themselves have endured an underwhelming season, are all but certain to part ways with Portuguese Coach Sousa come the end of the year.

The Italian daily claims that although other names such as Roberto Di Mateo, Sassuolo's Eusebio Di Francesco and Italy U21 boss Luigi Di Biagio have been touted for the Viola hot-seat, Pioli is the Florence club's number one target.

Would be surprised if Fiorentina wanted him after the way he has acted here recently. During this poor run of form he has blamed the defense, midfielders, and the strikers, all separately, and not once has he blamed himself for the debacle that happened against Milan, or the subbing of our best player when we are down by 1 against Genoa this past week, or even the fact that he continues to start Nagatoma despite the fact that Nags has been awful this year.

Pioli seems to always be connected with any vacancy that appears in Serie 'A' and then never gets the job.

I think he's done a bad job at Inter, and his reputation has taken a hit. He has shown major deficiencies in how he manages

He character is too imposing in my view and that tires the players especially if you're not in a category of say Mourinho, Guardiola, Simeone or even Bielsa who don't take any crap.  Coaches gain what they want through respect and that encompasses many factors and not just tactical knowhow.

Fiorentina have officially confirmed that Stefano Pioli has been appointed to replace Paulo Sousa as Coach.

The former Viola player returns to Artemio Franchi having been sacked by Inter last month.

"ACF Fiorentina announces that it has reached an agreement with Stefano Pioli, who will be entrusted with the technical guidance of the first team," a statement on the Tuscan club's official website confirmed.

"Stefano Pioli, as a player, wore the Viola shirt on 156 occasions between 1989 and 1995, also wearing the captain's armband.

"The new Gigliati boss has signed a contract which will tie him to his new club for two years with the option of a third.

"Pioli will be presented to the Press tomorrow, June 7, at 12.30 in the Manuela Righini Press room at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

"Finally, Stefano Pioli will meet Viola fans interested in showing their affection and support for the new Coach at Fiorentina Store on Viale Manfredo Fanti between 18.00 and 18.45.

"The owners, the directors and everyone at Fiorentina wish the Coach the greatest satisfaction, and offer him a huge 'good luck' for his new job.

"Welcome back, Stefano."

A fairly dull and uninspiring choice. Is there anything to suggest Pioli is likely to massively improve? I doubt it, a typical rehash appointment from a Serie A club.

(Could probably merge this with the two other topics about a new Fiorentina manager)

Merged.

Yea I agree. Seems like a dull appointment. But that's kind of what Serie A does..
