Softer the better usually. hence the reason for toasters if you want something a bit more crispier? Although I love a crispy baguette with soft bread on the inside. Most supermarkets have sandwich-esque bread (sliced?) as well as large or small baguettes or unsliced loaves of bread (like tiger loaf).
