I thought this word was only used in Lord of the Rings

But you were only 1 letter away on 2nd and 3rd go, then went totally different direction thereafter!?

Surely just keep guessing words with those 4 letters you already had correct?

This one took a while, once all the usual suspects disappeared it took a bit of thinking to wonder what it was. Is there a rule that you can't use the same letter more than once in a word?Β

I have a big brain strategy of using "RAISE" for my first guess, and then "MOUTH" for my second guess if I get nothing (rare). That way all vowels and a lot of common consonants are covered early doors. Thank me later.Β

I use a similar strategy. The only thing I think youre missing there is Y, which is often used in place of a vowel, and is quite transformative in terms of the possible words when you realise y is in play.
