Bayern München Thread

So apparently Bayern Munich are declining the option to sign Coutinho at the end of his loan deal.

Sort of feel bad for him, but at the same time sort of think lol - a great player, but he's found himself in a situation where nobody really wants him and he went out of his way to engineer it.

Fully understandable, Coutinho was is performing average by Bayern standards at best, and 120m Euro are a hefty sum.

Basically what Rucks said. Hes had flashes where hes been brilliant but hes been average more often. I tend to believe he was always going to be a stop gap solution until the summer when we go back in for Sane and theres little chance we where ever going to be buying both players. I suppose there was always an outside chance Countinho blew the doors down and left the bosses no choice but you have to figure that was always unlikely.

Sounds as if Hansi will be given the job permanently, hard to argue hes proven he can handle the job thus far. The instantaneous improvement probably doesnt reflect to well on Kovac but thats another matter.

We had a birthday yesterday. Our coach [Flick] turned 55. That is a good age. We toasted him yesterday evening, but I’d still like to give him a small gift this evening.

Dear Hansi, happy birthday, all the best! For those who don’t know what is inside the red package: it is a pen. And at FC Bayern we sometimes also sign papers with pens. I wish you all the best! Keep up the good work, do it well. Stay how you are. We are very, very happy with how the team is playing, as well as with the results and the soccer that it is playing.

GOD DAMNIT. I guess its a good thing we have that lead going into munich. Also means he will miss the Pokal match against Schalke.

At FC Bayern’s 3-0 over Chelsea FC yesterday, Robert Lewandowski suffered a fracture of the tibia in his left knee joint. This was the finding of a thorough examination by Bayern doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt upon his return from London on Wednesday today. After immobilization in a plaster cast for ten days, rehabilitation training will commence. He will be out in total for approximately four weeks.

Also in better news apparently the brass is talking extension and raise for Fonzie.

They sign arp and proclaim him being the next big thing but never give him a chance to play.

Dont understand that thinking.

Without a proven striker in their ranks will they give a youngster a start unless put Müller there .

Funny in the Chelsea game the British announcer referenced how Lewi never gets hurt. I said to myself that did it. Football omens.

That's a big miss for Bayern, no matter how good the rest of the players are.

Who fills in for him? Muller?

The game plan has always been for him to never get hurt, its worked out ok so far :35_thinking:

Probably has to be Zirkzee or Müller. Its doable a stop gap but thats basically it.

I know, it's very strange how Arp has never been given a real chance. I mean even if it was a few minutes at the end of a match when Bayern are winning, that would have been good for him.

I actually think that with Lewandowski out, the return leg in Munich against Chelsea, might be a great opportunity to give either Arp or Zirkzee a start. But Flick might have other ideas and maybe start Muller upfront.

Interesting Q&A from The Athletic with Müller, ill post a couple parts. Theres lots more there they touch on but Im not sure about posting the entire transcript etc.

The team’s return to form has coincided with an improvement in your own performances. Your goals and assists tally is pretty impressive, considering you’ve played a lot on the right side of attack, not your favourite position…

It’s definitely not my dream position but I try to move inside and get into the box, if possible. That’s not a new thing. If it doesn’t work out in a game, people are a little quick to say: “He can’t play there.” It gets a bit tiresome. I can be effective on the right and help the team but if I’m too isolated, when there’s no one getting into the inside-right half-spaces, I don’t have that many weapons to help the team.

It comes down to creating depth, especially against deep defences…

Absolutely. The question is, how do we play as a team in those games? How many times do I get to touch the ball? How many times do I get into situations where I can be valuable? If I’m completely by myself and we lose the ball quickly, I’m less suited to creating danger than our specialists on the flanks, who can do that with their dribbling skills. If our passing rhythm is high and we have lots of possession, you get more time as a forward to pick the right moment to make a run inside or look for a combination. It’s much better that way.

What has Hansi Flick done to get you going again?

I don’t like comparing coaches. I know it’s common to speak about your former and current superiors in football but that would never happen in normal business life. No one would be crazy enough to rate their boss in public.

Why are you winning now, then? The players haven’t changed. If anything, you’ve had quite a few injuries.

You can see the changes — it’s not difficult to analyse. We’ve changed the way we play “against” the ball. We attempt to disrupt the opponents’ game in their own half, no-holds-barred. It works quite well. But there is no perfect system. Playing a high defensive line, you leave a lot of space behind for the opposition to use. You have to be very switched on at the back, to figure out whether you should drop or push up for an offside. If the defenders get it right, much is won. We worked hard on that and have tried to instil these processes. The lads also see that it’s more fun chasing a ball when you get a reward for it, by creating chances up front. It’s less fun to to chase ball only to be able to play it sideways outside your own box. That’s the difference, in a way.

But the beauty and the horror of football is that you can still lose games you dominate if your finishing is off or you make a couple of mistakes against quick opposition. That’s what happened when we lost against Leverkusen at home. That’s how it is. You can’t be flawless. Even Liverpool, a team who have been dominating in England and Europe for a year or so, don’t wipe the floor with teams all the time. They win matches with a regularity that’s frightening but it’s not as if their opponents never get a chance to score or never get a goal, it’s not as if their games are never tied with 10 minutes to go. They’re simply on a run right now and they have the skills you need for it.

The same could be said of Bayern right now. If “the best Bayern since Pep” is too much for you, what about “the best Muller since Pep”?

That’s down to the criteria you want to apply. I have scored a few goals in recent weeks — that has been nice. Generally speaking, things have changed because our team has changed since Pep. Due to his influence and quality, Franck Ribery was more of an assister than a finisher. In all those years, we had so much possession and Franck would always look for you in the box. Now, we have Serge [Gnabry]. He’s best when he goes for goal himself. He’s extremely good with his left and his right. When he’s dribbling into the box, he’s going for goal 80 per cent of the time. And he’s right to. Three years before, it was a different scenario. Ribery went into the box with a view to finding someone to finish the move for him.

Why was Favre asked about Lewa's injury xD

They want to bait him into saying that we're gonna win the league now and will be easy going, because Bayern are a one man team or some nonsense like that, just so they can call him a clueless, arrogant choker and a fraud after we failed to win the title.

Not sure if this has been posted before so my apologies if so:

Nübel is not inspiring confidence at being Neuers replacement at Bayern or national team

is it just a rough patch for him? I haven't followed his play but Schalke are dropping like a stone

That was utterly bizarre to watch. This fills in the rest of the gaps for context for me. One thing I dont understand still is why did they have to stop the match at all? I dont see how it was that offensive, surely worse things have been on banners then that.

To be frank, the only reason that match was stopped is that Hopp is a billionaire and can afford the necessary costs to suit the clubs for these banners, while the minorities that get usually discriminated against lack the financial background to do so, in my honest opinion.

Kimmich and Goretzka have started an initiative "We Kick Corona" to support medical, social and charitable organisations in the current crisis and already donated a million Euro themselves :)

I just saw that when I woke up this morning. Good on them, its great to see. I havent heard enough stories like this. In North America theres been a couple NBA players and a couple NHL players that have donated smaller sums (100k ish) to pay the part time arena staff that are out of jobs.

I heard Bayern is negotiating with Coman for new contract.

Yes he's a good player

however

yes he gets injured a lot.  A lot

Not just a quick recovery type injury  he usually misses half a season

whats the point of having a player who is off the field injured?  It is taking the place (and money) away from another player

The mgt should look for another player with perhaps a less injury plagued career to breathe new life in the squad

Sorry Kaiser but this is not exactly the right time to be expressing such a harsh form of lack of support when the Club is working in the exact opposite direction.
