It's something for an audience that just isn't really us. That said, I had to drive home from my Mum and Dad's pretty much straight after the race ended so I paid very little attention to the bizarre police escort thing and glanced the football helmets on my way out. It adds something to the race when the drivers look so exhausted after it's all done. But yeah, overall a forgettable track with a lot of pompousness surrounding it.
