Not sure if we have a topic on this or not or if this is in the right forum, if it is in the wrong forum or has been mentioned before then you honourable Admin/Mods can do your bit or not and move or merge it and even add a poll for yes or no if you wish. :ay:

Does football need a 60-minute 'stop-clock'?

Real Madrid's comeback win over Manchester City was one of the most dramatic games in Champions League history - but it was not without controversy.

Having forced extra time with Rodrygo's stunning late double before edging ahead in the tie through Karim Benzema's penalty, Real did what most teams would do: they ran down the clock with a masterful exhibition of game management.

However, referee Daniele Orsato had added just three minutes to the second period of extra time, and then blew his whistle with 10 seconds remaining, just when City keeper Ederson was about to boot the ball up the pitch.

While some have eulogised Real after another stunning fightback, others have used the latter stages of the game to debate the rules around the ball being in play.

Unnecessary and pointless idea so yes I'm sure the authorities will be tempted to invest insane amounts of time and money to researching and implementing this instead of sorting out things like rogue owners, financial inequalities, inconsistent officiating, poor implementation of VAR, simulation, ticket allocations at Cup finals, etc....

Not sure myself but when you see guys rolling around on the ground as if they had been hit by a truck just to slow the game down if his team is winning 1-0 with 90 minutes up then yes.

Just an afterthought, if you had a choice between the 60 minute bit or VAR what would you prefer?

I strongly disagree with @RandoEFC and strongly Agree with @Spike

This is something other free flowing games do SO well. Football is using such a bullshit inefficient system.

The ref is already wearing a watch. Put a fat fucking button on it. It counts down from 45. When the ball is out of play, he presses it. Time stops. When the ball re enters play, he presses it again, time resumes. Done. EZ. Problem gone.
Imagine a world where the game actually goes for 90 minutes, instead of the archaic bullshit we have now, where the 4th official kinda guesses, and gets bullied by home crowds and managers, then poorly communicates to the ref, who keeps different time anyway.

The ref doesn't even need to control the time, someone else can be sorting that for him, just have timers around the ground so the fans know how longs left. it would put an end to time wasting and at 90mins a hooter sounds and the game is over

They do this in Australian Rules Football, they have nominated Time Keepers that view the match above the ground, 1 nominated timekeeper from each team, they control the beginning of the game, half-time and the end of the game where a hooter will sound, they do this in Rugby League too I believe, this way it takes the pressure off the referee who has to control the game on the pitch.

Went to a lot of Australian Rules Football matches in Australia and played the game out there and watch it over here too on tv and the hooter controlled by the time-keeper has been the in-thing for years and not a problem, they even have a clock in the stadium that gives you how many minutes left so everyone can see.

At the very least it should be introduced for the stoppage time period. You get situations where its 4 minutes added on and the ref blows up bang on 4 despite 2 substitutions and a minute of rolling around.

Agree on all the points relating to time wasting/rolling around etc... The longer you piss ball about trying to waste time and fake injuries the longer the game goes on, simple really..

Players getting subbed on while the player coming off takes the slowest limping walk possible, no problem! add 3 minutes for being a cock... Rolling around pretending to be hurt while the physios come on to perform the miracle with only a can of spray, no problem, add 5 minutes for being a fanny... Managers making needless subs in the last 5 minutes of the game, no problem, add 3 minutes per sub for being an annoying tit..
