Yeah I've seen other decisions in games where they go back quite far for an infringement. It's not even like it was ages before, and if it was debatable. Clearly offside so wouldn't have taken long to check. The only thing I can think of is that it's a different phase of play, but that's usually where a linesman would raise his flag once the initial move is over.
