Wolves Splashing the Cash

Wolves have made a shock £14million move for Porto midfielder Ruben Neves.

The ambitious Championship club have opened talks with Porto over a deal for the 20-year-old Portugal international.

Neves has also been scouted by a number of Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The defensive midfielder is managed by Jorge Mendes, who remains an adviser to Wolves' owners.

Though Neves is regarded as a top talent, his form has dipped over the past year and Porto are struggling financially.

A deal with Wolves will alleviate concerns that they could face UEFA sanctions for breaching Financial Fair Play guidelines.

See if they can do better than 15th this coming season. Unbelievable deal, although he's player that's gone under the radar a bit, as the top sides in Europe seemed to have stopped (reportedly) chasing him, unless it's just a case that Porto were unwilling to look at interest or it's all down to Mendes, I'm thinking the latter.

Why would Mendes think that playing in the Championship is better than player in the Champions League? If he is trying to get a big move for Neves down the line, this is an odd move to accomplish this.

Starting for Wolves is better than sub appearances for Porto.

Exactly. Barely played for Porto last season, wasn't able to get any momentum. That being said, this'll be one of those transfers that either completely work and he destroys the league or ends up being a disaster and he scores like 2 goals. I don't think there will be a middle ground.

Diogo Jota signs on loan from Atletico Madrid.

Also was on loan at Porto last season.

Wolves have completed the signing of Portugal Under-21 international Diogo Jota on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder spent last season on loan at Portuguese side Porto, where he played under Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Jota started his career in his homeland with Pacos Ferreira and joined Atletico on a five-year deal last summer.

"This is a good opportunity for me," he told the club website.

Jota was a team-mate of another of Wolves' summer signings Ruben Neves at both Porto and for the Portugal Under-21 side during this summer's European Championship.

He scored nine goals in 35 appearances for Porto last season, including one in their 5-0 Champions League victory over Leicester City in December.

Could be very similar to Watford and that seems to be the goal here. I'm not sure if it's because of that, or the stature of the club, but Watford seem to be the most anonymous and boring team in the EPL at the moment.

Rumours in the newspapers they want Sam Gallagher for 8 million...that would be 8 million purely for potential as he isn't worth anything near that just yet. Plus he only recently signed a long term deal with Southampton so surely he is only interested in a loan move? Also rumours on social media about them being interested in Jordan Rhodes but I can't see Sheff Wed wanting to sell unless they submit a ridiculously over priced bid.

The Championship will be almost as flooded with money and stupid transfer fees as the Premier League within five years. It'll be more of a "Premier League B" than the top of the Football League.

Prices in the Championship can't stand still whilst the Premier League's go higher, it all has a knock on effect. I don't necessarily believe there is a bubble to burst, millions, if not billions of people around the world like to watch football. They will always want to watch and subscriptions will always be paid, but if there was ever a bubble to burst, or there was a sudden drop at least, it would badly impact a lot of clubs well beyond the Premiership.
