Presumably its about the mission launched by US forces in Syria targeting the ISIS leader.... Maybe they got the kill so trump can claim Isis are gone for good now....

I'd imagine any mission launched now would be reactive and driven in response to the recent gamut of foreign policy critiques, and trying to shift the news cycle and give enough of a headline to celebrate success. A desperate president in need of consolidating his position within his party pressures the generals to come up with some sort of final victory over Isis that he can claim was part of his plan all along...

The impeachment trials are killing him. Rumours Gordan Sondland has admitted to the quid pro quo in the closed door hearing yesterday which would be more gasoline on the fire. Trump's situation of impeachable grievances is pretty clearly past the point of Nixon but whilst 43 people in the senate GOP continue to support him he won't be going anywhere.

Any positive story about trump will likely end up negative of you give it 3 days. Because he is erratic and doesn't coordinate messaging, and usually motivated only by what he hears on Fox News.

But it's a situation where the media must take care not to prejudge that and just report what they know for the first days.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi: IS leader 'killed in US operation' in Syria

The fugitive leader of the Islamic State (IS) group has been killed in a US military operation in northwest Syria, President Donald Trump has said.

Speaking from the White House, Mr Trump said Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi detonated his suicide vest after being caught at the end of a tunnel by special forces.

Baghdadi came to prominence in 2014, when he announced the creation of a "caliphate" in areas of Iraq and Syria.

IS carried out a number of atrocities that resulted in thousands of deaths.

The jihadist group imposed a brutal rule on almost eight million people in the areas under its control and was behind a number of attacks in cities around the world. The US declared the "caliphate" defeated earlier this year.

Last night, the United States brought the world's number one terrorist leader to justice. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is dead. He was the founder and leader of ISIS, the most ruthless and violent terror organization anywhere in the world.

He died after running into a dead-end tunnel, whimpering and crying and screaming all the way. The compound had been cleared by this time, with people either surrendering or being shot and killed. Eleven young children were moved out of the house and are uninjured. The only ones remaining were Baghdadi in the tunnel, and he had dragged three of his young children with him. They were led to certain death.

He reached the end of the tunnel, as our dogs chased him down. He ignited his vest, killing himself and the three children. His body was mutilated by the blast. The tunnel had caved in on it, in addition. But test results gave certain immediate and totally positive identification. It was him.

The thug who tried so hard to intimidate others spent his last moments in utter fear, in total panic and dread, terrified of the American forces bearing down on him.

Baghdadi has been on the run for many years, long before I took office. But at my direction, as Commander-in-Chief of the United States, we obliterated his caliphate, 100 percent, in March of this year.

He was a sick and depraved man, and now he's gone. Baghdadi was vicious and violent, and he died in a vicious and violent way, as a coward, running and crying.

Last night was a great night for the United States and for the world. A brutal killer, one who has caused so much hardship and death, has violently been eliminated. He will never again harm another innocent man, woman, or child. He died like a dog. He died like a coward. The world is now a much safer place.

God bless America. Thank you.

Any questions?

Holy moly. "They did a lot of shooting, and a lot of blasing." Like a 1st grader describing his first Counter-Strike experience.

One day we'll have a US President telling us about how the Navy Seals squad leader did a 360 no-scope headshot

I enjoy musing about who the next Republican president may be, if you continue the de-evolutionary trend of the last 3... George HW Bush, George W Bush, Donald Trump....

Current best guesses... a) A k9 war veteran, b) a bucket of shit with a popular Twitter account, C) there won't be one. Trump will be installed as King and will rule until his death.

LOL Kentucky's Democrats have pulled a big upset in a state known for being very conservative.

You can tell tha getting booed at the national's game in Washington DC..  as he was waving rattled trump the fuck out. His response was coming to this state for the #2 alabama vs #1 LSU college football game. The biggest game of the year in one of the top red states and as much as I despise his views, you can't ignore how effectively he uses the media, Twitter, and his fan base. 2020 will be his to lose again.

The question is who would beat him. Warren is shrewd and the frontrunner to win the nomination right now but I don't think she'll play well in the general election. Free college and Medicare for all are both radical and expensive concept's. Biden and Sanders are lame ducks in the primary contest although Biden would surely smash trump in a general election... He's the safe one term only guy that makes sure Trump's out and handover to someone else in 2024... Harris has bombed due to really failing to connect with people on a human level, and going too far to the left in a crowded field. Pete Buttigieg is possibly the most talented candidate in a generation but being gay and married would crush the African American turnout which would hurt the Dems chances.
