As an economics student at A Level and undergraduate it has always frustrated me how people assess political parties on how they handle "the economy". The state of things at the moment though, I don't think many people will be swayed by "GDP this" and "reduced national debt" that or any of those headline figures if their energy bills and mortgages are still through the roof. We are currently in the 2008-10 cycle all over again. A global crisis with local nuance, 2 years out of an election. Brown was able to go into the election with the topline figures improving but the reputational damage of being at the wheel was too much. The same should likely be the case here. Our two party state seems to only change hands at a major economic impasse. Could be a coincidence but likely not. A decade of Labour should be coming. An election now might jeopardise that, whilst Labour would win, inflation, currency value and interest rates are likely going to cause further negative headlines in the coming months regardless of what any government does or does not do. We've had similar comments about people with Netflix in this country. Because of course people cant afford mortgages because they spend £60 a year on tv I'm not one of those back in the good old days kind of person but it seems as if this country has got worse and worse since brexit. And it is linked into that. We had an election which the conservatives won heavily because people wanted it sorted. We have rising prices because of it. I dont know how much of it is linked to it @nudge help. But other countries have had 20% rises in energy bills where as in britian it is 200%. Well I trust them more than the other politicians. I don't think it is true that you can't trust any politicians though. I'm sure there are some politicians out there who genuinely care about the world and want to make it better. I think when they vote for things that don't benefit them that is a sign they really care.
