Callum Wilson is the right choice in my opinion. When he's fit he's a better all round player than Toney or Abraham. He's in good form too. Only danger is that he's injury prone.

No Tomori or Ward-Prowse is a surprise but you could tell Southgate never fancied Tomori. Coady I guess is better in the locker room. Didn't expect Conor Gallagher to make it ahead of Ward-Prowse though.

Agreed. Personally would have been happy with either Wilson or Toney so not really fussed there.

Shame about Tomori; not sure what else he could have done.

I'm glad White has gone though. Done well in a successful Arsenal team and gives us depth in defence.

Gallagher is a surprise but glad Ward-Prowse isn't in. Other than free-kicks, is he actually good enough for England?

How Toney hasn’t made it ahead of Callum Wilson I don’t know. He gives you everything you want in a centre forward and is categorically a better player than Wilson. But here we are, that’s international football.

Good choices made regarding Maddison and White.

maybe his recent issues with betting is not helping him.  Wilson is a consumate professional who is playing exceptionally well.

JWP was awful on the weekend and looks like a player who is hoping some bigger club grabs him.

Tomori's positional awareness has always been poor. If he didn't have pace to make up for it he'd be a below par CB.

Gallagher is a smart decision on a tactical standpoint. Adds a lot of energy in midfield if wanting to protect a lead or to add a pressing game in need of a goal.

Amazing that Mount has been utter dross for over a year and still gets selected.

But struggles to play with a common cold

Let's hope he can handle the heat :D

he did play he was withdrawn at half time.  we don't want a Marc Vivian Foe or Chieke Tiote scenario

I know.

As for Foe/Tiote, that's some stretch.

Maddison was playing far too well to ignore. If I'm brutally honest, I think he's bowed to pressure a bit rather than because he wants to play him (I predict he starts no games) but it's a positive regardless. Common sense prevails.

Defence fills me with very little confidence.

                        Pickford

            White - Coady - Stones

 Trent  -  Rice. -  Bellingham. - Shaw

             Saka -   Kane   - Foden

Or

                        Pickford

Trippier  - Stones  -  Coady  - Shaw

             Rice    -     Bellingham

                      Maddison

         Saka    -   Kane  -   Foden

The front three are the best, most in form in the squad. Rice & Bellingham have to be starters as well, especially over Phillips.

Felt like Maguire would be included. To be fair, if this was an era where big name players went to Italy, there would be a queue to bring him home. And England would still play him regardless. Man United without him were still played off the pitch at Villa. Not Maguire. Man United.

Trippier-White will be ahead of TAA. I think TAA is only there because 26 are allowed & Reece James is out.

Midfield? Kalvin Phillips? Really? I've been impressed, but when did he last play a competitive match?  Also, Henderson has always been a first rate athlete. But this is football. I guess later stages will have a business as usual Champions League feel for him. Rice & Bellingham have to start. I'd have taken Ward Prowse & 1 other. But not Phillips. I always seem to find more issues in midfield than anywhere else.

Maddison will likely be TAA's no matches mate. Likely just there to give the starters a high quality training workout.

Strikers? Maybe I've overlooked Wilson somehow at some stage. But I have noticed Ivan Toney & Tammy Abraham much more.

If we're playing with 3 at the back, I can see Trent starting as the RWB. He'll have more defensive protection.

White should start as RCB but Southgate will probably stick with a half fit Walker.

Philips hasn't fucking played for most of the year due to injury and then biting of FAR more than he could chew at city.
And let's not even get started on Hazzdogmillionaire.

I'd have taken Tomori over eric fuckig dier.

Phillips is surprising and a move to city after being so poor last season was a money move over career as he won't get much game time and no game time is no development.   I can see Phillips leaving city next season.

Abrahams has 3 goals this season in Serie A.  toneys off field issues this season and last probably factored in.   his fuck Brentford issue last season and now implicated in match betting which could match fixing to is a red flag character.    Callum Wilson is a solid professional in great form that is 10 goals in his last 16 games dating back to December 2021
