think this was the one I enjoyed the most as it tested me the most, especially memory-wise mixed with sensible processing of elimination.

Did help that one of the questions involved one of my favourite midfielders of all time. Question 9 was a bitch though xD

Again, really confident on that one.

The only sticking point was second question to last. I wasn't even aware this had happened so had to take an educated guess.

I've actually googled it now and I guessed wrong xD Would never have said the answer anyway.

Quiz 9 Answers

1) Which club did Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano play for before joining West Ham in 2006?

B – Corinthians. Tevez started out at Boca Juniors, Mascherano at River Plate, before both joined Corinthians and then moved together to Upton Park. 53% answered correctly.

2) Which one of these leagues has Zlatan Ibrahimovic never played in?

C – Russia. Zlatan started out at Malmo in Sweden before leaving home for Ajax. He also, of course, spent four years at Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1. 100% answered correctly.

3) Bournemouth will be Jermain Defoe’s sixth different Premier League club when he plays for them in 2017-18. For which of his previous clubs has he scored the most goals?

C – Tottenham. 91 Spurs strikes easily beats Defoe’s tallies for Sunderland (34), West Ham (29) and Portsmouth (15). 87% answered correctly.

4) Only seven players have scored goals in the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A. Which of these players is one of them?

C – Obafemi Martins. The Nigerian has scored for Newcastle, Levante, Inter and Wolfsburg in their respective leagues. Xavier is the only other player on the list to have played in all four leagues (and France too), but has only found the net in England’s top flight. The other players to have achieved Martins’ feat are Florin Raducioiu (West Ham, Espanyol, Stuttgart, Bari, Verona, Brescia, AC Milan), Pierre Wome (Fulham, Espanyol, Werder Bremen, Bologna, Brescia), Jon Dahl Tomasson (Newcastle, Villareal, Stuttgart, AC Milan), Gheorghe Popescu (Tottenham, Barcelona, Hannover 96, Lecce), Kevin-Prince Boateng (Portsmouth, Las Palmas, Hertha Berlin, Schalke 04, AC Milan) and Bojan Krkic (Stoke, Barcelona, Mainz 05, Roma, AC Milan). 60% answered correctly.

5) Nicolas Anelka is one of the great journeymen, representing 12 clubs (including loans) in his career. Which one of the following is NOT on his list?

B – Galatasaray. Anelka did spend some time in Turkey, giving a season to Fenerbahce, but not Galatasaray. 60% answered correctly.

6) Who is the only player to have won the Champions League (as a player) with three different clubs?

A – Clarence Seedorf. The Dutchman won Europe’s top club prize with Ajax (1995), Real Madrid (1998) and AC Milan (2003 and 2007). Rijkaard lifted the trophy at Ajax and twice at Milan, before winning it as Barcelona manager too, Eto’o was champion with Barcelona and Inter, while Xabi Alonso was unable to add a title with Bayern Munich to his Liverpool and Real Madrid medals before he retired. 60% answered correctly.

7) Luca Toni is a World Cup winner with Italy and played for 15 different clubs in his career. Which team was he with when he finally retired in 2016?

D – Verona. Toni spent the last three seasons with the Italian club, still managing to bag 48 goals in 95 appearances for them in the twilight of his career. 67% answered correctly.

8) Peter Crouch is another man whose list of former clubs goes into double figures. At which club has he scored the most goals?

C – Stoke City. Crouch has scored 40 goals (and counting) for The Potters, making them his most successful club ahead of Portsmouth, where he scored 29 goals in two spells, Liverpool (22) and Tottenham (12). 53% answered correctly.

9) Djibril Cissé spent time playing in France, England, Greece, Qatar, Italy and Russia before a broken leg forced him into retirement. However, next season, Cissé has agreed to come out of retirement to play for a team in which country?

D – Switzerland. 35-year-old Cissé has signed a contract with Yverdon Sport FC for next season, and will turn out in the third tier of Swiss football. 33% answered correctly.

10) Goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel is arguably the greatest journeyman of them all, now retired after playing for 25 clubs across all six FIFA Confederations. Which club did he appear for 12 times in the Premier League?

D – Wimbledon. You can be forgiven for having a complete guess here, but this quiz couldn’t leave out the only man to have played in all six continents during his career. The German goalkeeper has had a colourful life, not least as part of Kinnear’s “crazy gang” at Wimbledon. He was also pronounced dead on the pitch after his lung collapsed while playing for Bradford Park Avenue on Boxing Day 2003, and spent 101 days in a Singapore jail after being wrongly accused of match-fixing. Pfannenstiel is currently employed as head of international relations and scouting at Hoffenheim. 33% answered correctly.
