Administrator Stan Posted June 12, 2023 Administrator Share Posted June 12, 2023 Can't see this happening if De Gea stays. Pickford is worthy of a permanent #1 spot if he moves, he wouldn't settle for a bench/rotation spot? Quote MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to move for England No 1 Jordan Pickford whether David de Gea leaves or not. Boss Eric ten Hag wants a top shotstopper this summer to either rival De Gea or replace him if he does not agree a new contract. Pickford, 29, is the keeper at the top of their list and Everton may sell at around £30million. The extrovert was excellent as the Toffees beat the drop but the Merseyside club need money. England No 1 Pickford would love to play in the Champions League, which is missing from his CV. Leeds’ Illan Meslier, 23, was United’s initial thought as a long-term successor to De Gea but he was dropped after his form dipped. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/22653825/jordan-pickford-man-utd-tranfer-bid-everton/
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted June 12, 2023 Subscriber Share Posted June 12, 2023 I'd put long odds on this but not rule it out. The Everton ITK ElBobble who has a number of friends who are football agents or work at Everton seemed to suggest on their podcast that the series of events would have to be De Gea is targeted by the Saudi League for a transfer > De Gea decides to go there > Man Utd need a new goalkeeper > the Qatari takeover of Man Utd actually goes through > they offer silly money to take Jordan Pickford off Everton to replace De Gea. It sounded like Man Utd are likely to turn their nose off at our asking price if the takeover doesn't go through. A lot of ifs, buts and maybes but he'd be a logical target for them if De Gea leaves and he'd be open to the move if Everton told him they want him to leave for the fee being offered because it isn't too far for him to move/travel for his settled family. It sounds like a lot of the transfer business Erik Ten Hag wants to complete relies on this takeover happening which must be frustrating for him. A very good itk I listen to for Palace dropped in a conversation that Erik Ten Hag would allow Wan Bissaka to return to us if the takeover goes through. OrangeKhrush
a few man United fan channels not happy, they want Onana, but it's not like Pickford isn't good. He is probably the only reason Everton survived last season, and was instrumental this season

6666
Not really sure where De Gea would even go. Not many big clubs are even looking for a keeper. Chelsea are reportedly after Onana so maybe if that goes through, Inter might make a move. Everton supposedly don't have a lot of money to spend so I don't think they'd resist too much to a sale. Dean Henderson + £20m?

Inverted
The issue for De Gea is finding a club that's flush with cash that doesn't really care about building up from the back. United were an outlier in that respect for a long time.

You never know though Interesting to know where you've heard that. The lad who knows shit at Everton was adamant that Everton's people, Spurs' people, Pickford's people and people in the football agent circles all said there was nothing in it (yet). I suppose it's possible that they'd spoken hypothetically. We probably would have had no choice but to cash in on Pickford and Onana if we'd dropped but I'd be amazed if Spurs happened. Everything I've heard is that Pickford is very happy at the club and with his family settled in the city. He also signed a new contract to 2027 a few months ago. I just can't see Spurs paying that much money for him. Man Utd have a record of more reckless spending and a more likely location for him geographically on their side. Danny
Pickford is a good keeper but I’ve never been that impressed with his kicking.

You never know though Yeah if they’d gone down I think we’d have made a move. Not surprised we’d had contact with his agent. I know we’ve been interested for years. I’m in a minority amongst our fanbase but I’d have him over Raya for sure
Devil
Crazy to think I'm really not enthusiastic about the idea of signing two England regulars. Neither Pickford or Mount do anything for me at all, yet I bet they'd both prove me wrong if we signed them.
